These first few games with Paul George have shed new light on past discussions about the merit of keeping Brown and Tatum together. Were they redundant to the point of diminishing return ? Was the offense too much of 'my turn' and 'your turn' repetition. I would say they tried to make the very talented duo work together the best they could and we did win a title with them.
Having said that, Paul George just seems to fit in much better with our offense. He is such a good facilitator and does not become an impediment the way that Jaylen sometimes did. Of course, Brown was such a talented pure scorer, whether he was driving to the rim, hitting the mid-range jumper or his improving 3-point shot. But I'm starting to think the better choice is a facilitator who can also score (George) as opposed to the pure scorer (Brown), who would impede ball movement and interfere with Tatum's game rather than compliment it.
Of course, no matter how much better the offense might run with Paul George, we still have to overcome our coach's destructive offensive scheme (tonight 44 3-point attempts at 27%). Many of those 3-point attempts were awful shot selection. Glad we won, but as we all know we can win 60 games every year and Mazzulla will find a way to lose in the playoffs. When will Brad and ownership wake the hell up ?
