I was curious what people on here thought about a future trade scenario.

If the Celtics season was faltering at (roughly) the half-way point of the season. Would you trade Paul George to Golden State for Jimmy Butler (salary dump) and multiple picks? And if so, how many picks would it take for you to be happy with the trade return?

Celtics ownership has never operated like that. There is no way Stevens gets fired anytime soon.

Hypothetically, Celtics could struggle as a result of Tatum missing games with injury issues. The Celtics were probably the most fortunate team last season in regards to overall missed games. That could very easily change this season.

Butler, and his inability to shoot threes effectively, would be a very bad fit for their current system.

Also, call me naive but I think they will be fine at the halfway point!

Cs should be better on court than last year. Though their record most likely will be worst due to the East getting better. So I don't see them bailing on the season unless there are serious injuries

Assuming there are injuries and they want to dump money PG could opt out if he has a good year and say wants to go play for Lakers or some other team. So with that in mind maybe they move a smaller contract like White.

I would not.  Butler is in decline, so is George, but I think George compliments our team better.

You'd have to assume that PG was playing very well and that GSW was in the mix this year for this to be a consideration for GSW.  I think if PG is playing very well it probably translates to the Celtics playing well and possibly a legitimate contender in the East.  Under those circumstances the C's wouldn't trade PG for Butler.

I admit I find the picks intriguing...If we aren't winning with PG, why not make a move and get some picks out of it? Not sure what GS would offer.

Bleacher Report's Greg Swartz proposed a deal that sends him to the New Orleans Pelicans for Trey Murphy III and Dejounte Murray.

Using Butler's expiring salary, along with a haul of first-round picks, to make a run at Trey Murphy III and Dejounte Murray could help save the Warriors' title hopes and benefit the Pelicans in the long run

This "proposed" deal makes more sense than Paul George.  Not sure either is all that likely.  GSW rolled the dice on Butler.  If he had stayed healthy, they could have made a run, but he didn't.  I don't know how much they are going to be willing to mortgage their future to put a team around Curry for, what, 1 or 2 more seasons?  May as well see if they can get Butler healthy for another run.

Dump George for an expiring contract and picks?  Absolutely, although I'd try to reroute Butler for a long-term piece.

Why for Golden Syate, though?

I guess if Porzingis can come back later this season and stay some level of healthy, a starting five of, Curry, Podziemski, George, Green, Porzingis would be very dangerous in the playoffs. Warriors ownership seems to be willing to help Curry have one last run at a title.

Jimmy Butler looked cooked last season, where-as George does not. George fits Warriors offensive philosophy quite well too. Next season George can opt out and return for a discount, allowing the Warriors to improve their roster further.

For the Celtics, the Golden State picks and Butler salary can be flipped to any team because Butler is on an expiring deal. The question is how many picks is Paul George worth?

How did Jimmy Butler look cooked? Last season he averaged 20pts/6rebs/5ast/1stl with shooting splits of 52/38/86

At some point you have to blame the performance on the court on the players on the court. Every loss is not the coach's fault and every win isn't because of the players.

Defensively, he is cooked. Now add in the ACL injury, he is not going to be able to cover anyone.

I don?t really have a grasp on our future. Once we move on from George is it just having the ability to keep our guts we have now as they gradually improve or is there a possibility of a guy that?s a bit better that can be added. I have no idea.
