I like it for Boston. Indiana gets worse, though. Why would they want to swap PG13 for Siakam?

At some point you have to blame the performance on the court on the players on the court. Every loss is not the coach's fault and every win isn't because of the players.

The same reason as the Celtics, money.

Siakam will want a max contract extension after this season, especially because he was a late bloomer.

George has made his money, he is after a title and a legacy. Like with Boston, it is assumed he will take a discount in pursuit of a title. With the money Indiana save on his deal, they can add to their depth or pay a player they would otherwise lose. George would fit seamlessly with Haliburton and if anything would be an upgraded off ball shooter.

It isn?t the same, though. Siakam is a $50M/year player. He isn?t eligible for a supermax. Haliburton is making $52M next year and $55M the year after. They can afford to keep both guys.

Yes I know, but Siakam will expect a max extension.

That will mean around 65 million a season (3-years, $207 million eligible). The Pacers still have to pay Zubac, Nembhard & Toppin.

Paul George extension should look something like what Cleveland gave James Harden (3-years, $97 million). That is a huge difference in this current second apron climate.

And he deserves a max extension. He is the 2nd best player on the team. If Indiana needed to shave salary, they would let Toppin go. Haliburton is not eligible for a supermax either, so they might be able to keep everyone.
