Give him Amaris spot!

The New York Knicks waived Bruce Brown and will keep James Wiseman on the roster as the team heads into its regular-season opener.

Not eligible for a 2-way.

Recently read an article that stated the Celtics are expected to only carry 14 players on the main roster because a 15th would put the team into the luxury tax.

C/PF-Horford, Baynes, Noel, Theis, Morris,
SF/SG- Tatum, Brown, Hayward, Smart, Semi, Clark
PG- Irving, Rozier, Larkin

Starting the season with 14 increases optionality. Plus BOS has solid players on 2-ways for additional depth.  If Bruce Brown could not make NYK, he probably is not that good anymore.

The Phoenix Suns and center Oso Ighodaro have agreed to a three-year, $29 million extension. The deal will start with the 2028-29 season and will carry Ighodaro through the 2030-31 season.

So about $10mil a year for a middle of the pack bench center.

Wow already? I mean that sucks but yikes

BREAKING: Kings guard Ben Simmons is believed to have suffered a torn Achilles at practice on Sunday, per Shams Charania.

It is expected to be a season-ending injury for Simmons who was looking to make a comeback after not playing last year.

Cue the Allen Iverson 'practice' speech though.

Wow. Wait until Pritchard sees that.  :-X

Oklahoma City Thunder All-Defensive guard Cason Wallace has agreed to a five-year, $139 million rookie-scale contract extension, agents Jeff Schwartz, Max Lipsett and Marcus Monk of Excel Sports Management told ESPN's Shams Charania on Sunday.

Wallace, the No. 10 pick in the 2023 draft, was a second-team All-Defensive selection last season. He averaged career highs of 8.6 points, 2.6 assists and 1.9 steals per game and led the NBA in total steals with 150.

Honestly bummed for him. He looked as good in the pre-season as he did in his early years for Philly. I was kinda' excited to see him and Sabonis together with those guards around them.

It's just always a bummer when good players, especially unique players like Simmons, go down.

I also worry this is it for him.

Jeremy Sochan I guess. That's the only name that has stuck out to me so far.

Remember when SA tried to make him a point guard?

He started 149 games for SAS between 2022 and 2025, then disappeared.  228 total games in 4 seasons.  What happened to him?  Only 23 years old.

Quote
Portland's decision to waive Sochan is somewhat surprising, given that the team doesn't have much depth at forward behind starters Deni Avdija and Toumani Camara. Sochan also had a solid preseason, averaging 6.0 RPG and 3.8 RPG with a .625 FG% in 12.2 MPG across four outings.

The Blazers could've converted Sochan's training camp deal to a standard, non-guaranteed contract and retained him as their 15th man to open the regular season while staying well below the luxury tax line. Instead, it looks as if the plan in Portland

He has too much service time for a 2-way deal.

1988 to 2011 = 18 achilles tears
2024-25 = 7 achilles tears
2026 preseason = 3 achilles tears

(1) OKC rookie Ortega Owen
(2) Philly backup center Hukporti
(3) Ben Simmons for SAC

Brandon Miller and the Charlotte Hornets have agreed to a five-year, $209 million rookie-scale contract extension.

I wouldn't have signed him to that. I would have waited until next summer when he is a restricted free agent. He is not enough of a sure thing / proven player to justify that much money.

Two noteworthy players waived

(1) Dalton Knecht

Quote
The Los Angeles Lakers waived Dalton Knecht, their 2024 first-round pick, on Monday.

The Lakers drafted the 6-foot-6 wing 17th overall in 2024 out of Tennessee.

Knecht finished his rookie season averaging 9.1 points and 2.8 rebounds in 78 games. Last season, his minutes fell to 10.2 per game and he averaged 4.2 points in 54 games.

Quote
JJ Redick said last week that changes to the roster hurt Knecht's chances.

"I think the biggest thing is the team changed," said Redick. "The team changed. The needs changed, the fit changed. I think he got better as a player over the last two years. I think each guy has, particularly last year, each guy got plenty of opportunities with the amount of injuries we had. So, I just think coming into this year, we added a lot of wings and he's in a tough spot right now."

Not a surprise. It was heavily rumoured over the last 2 weeks that LAL would waive Knecht. Felt inevitable.

----------

I am trying to figure out who beat him out for that final roster spot. I think it was Thybulle.

G: C Sexton, Bronny
G: Cam Carr, Jaden Hardy
F: A Thiero, M Thybulle
F: J LaRavia, Ziaire Williams
C: Kevon Looney, J Vanderbilt

That is with Mamu as the starting PF alongside Luka, A Reaves, Q Grimes, W Kessler as starters.

Interesting bench. No true PG. A pair of combo guards. I suppose you can do that when you have Luka and A Reaves. Backup center is a problem area. Looney looked finished these past 2 years to me. 4 athletic defensive forwards (Thybulle, Ziaire, Vanderbilt, Thiero) who can't shoot. Looks like LAL preferred these defensive forwards over Knecht (offensive forward) as pairings next to Luka & A Reaves. Fair enough.

----------------

(2) Walter Clayton Jr

Quote
The Memphis Grizzlies are waiving Walter Clayton Jr., the No. 18 pick in the 2025 draft, and Micah Peavy, sources told ESPN's Shams Charania on Monday.

Clayton played 24 games for Memphis after the deal. He averaged 9.7 points, 5.7 assists and 2.1 rebounds and shot 36.6% from three.

Great option as a 3rd string PG. Another guy who I would rather have than Mike Conley.

--------------------

Looks like a 9 man rotation and a bunch of 3rd stringers who are mostly forwards

G: Ty Jerome, Scottie Pippen Jr
G: Ced Coward
F: Jaylen Wells, Kris Murray
F: Cam Boozer, Jerami Grant
C: Zach Edey, Isaiah Stewart

3rd stringers

G: Cam Spencer
G:
F: Karim Lopez, GG Jackson, OM Prosper
F: Taylor Hendricks
C: Quintin Post

Hmm ... no real SG on their 3rd stringers or on their primary bench players. Only 1 real SG on their whole roster in Cedric Coward. I am not even sure he is an out and out SG. He plays more like a SF to my eyes.
