Final Thoughts on Celtics Summer League

John Tonje needs a two way deal. He averaged 15ppg, shot 51% from the field  and 45% from 3pt (6 attempts per game.) He has good size for a guard at 6?5/225lbs and I thought his defense looked good enough. Every game that I saw, he was playing hard on both ends.

Amari Williams was really disappointing, overall. He doesn?t seem to have much of a motor. It?s like he is going through the motions a lot of the time. Rim protection wasn?t good. He doesn?t box out, just tries to out jump opponents. In todays game he played 17 mins and had 2pts and 3rebs. Horrendous turnovers.

Really a shame that Brad traded out of #32 to take Amari later in the round. Stevens passed on Kalkbrenner, Raynaud and Sion James who were all rotation players last year.

In terms of summer league play, Yes.  But let me ask you this what is his NBA position?

Agree, he seemed to try to really stretch the limit of his passing game this game.   Some of the passes were force, some over anticipated but I could see what he was trying to do in terms of leading players.   But there is zero chemistry with 90% of guys on the team and it did not work well.

Really a shame that Brad traded out of #32 to take Amari later in the round. Stevens passed on Kalkbrenner, Raynaud and Sion James who were all rotation players last year.

I wish we would have traded for any early second this year and drafted Trevon Brazile who went at 35.

I hope this is the end of Curtis Jones tenure, whose basketball IQ is terrible.  I thought this was worst summer league game to watch.

Amari is a smart player, but the issue with his motor has been evident since the first time I saw him play. I get why people are enamored with his passing, he sometimes has an impressive block, and he's decent enough offensively down low. But when you are an end of the roster guy, you have to play with reckless abandon and he just doesn't go for it a lot of the time. Dude plays like Embiid, but without any of Embiid's talent.

Tonje will probably get the two-way, but Uzan has a chance. He's also a PG, which this team is a little light on. Hugo looked good outside of creating his own shot, which he just won't be asked to do on the Celtics. Mitchell is really solid and looks like he could be an immediate contributor if given the chance. And Cenac has so many raw tools, just have to see if they come together. He at least plays hard

He is not a good athlete in terms of explosion.

I could see Tonje as a Quentin Grimes type combo guard. Just not as good.

That would be ideal.   I like him, for me he was the most fun guy to watch in summer league, especially the first game, at times.
