But to trade a soon to be 30 year old guy who just finished 6th in MVP voting for 36 year old declining Paul George and only 2 firsts feels insultingly bad. Look at the packages old man Kawhi and Walker Kessler got.

This post brings to mind an interesting question. Say it was Jaylen who was traded to TOR instead of Kawhi. Is TOR still regarded as a title contender?

G: Quickley, J Shead
G: RJ Barrett, Ja'Kobe Waler
F: Jaylen Brown
F: Scottie Barnes, Collin Murray Boyles
C: Jakob Poeltl

Is that a title caliber team?

Is that team getting the mainstream media & social media love as being one of the favourites to win the Eastern Conference like Kawhi's team is?

Is Jaylen viewed as good enough (as Kawhi is) to elevate that team to a title contender?

Kawhi returned Ingram (or you could look at is as Ingram returned Kawhi).  Brown returned Paul George.  These deals are not all that different.  Would you rather have Kawhi and Gradey Dick than Paul George?  Are you certain that Kawhi will be better than Paul George next season?  Kawhi has a high ceiling but plenty of risk.

I would rather have kept Brown over Kawhi, George, or Ingram.  I see Brown as the best value of this group.  But I don't know if the differences between Paul George and these others will end up being a great as they seem like they should be right now.

Paul George isn?t close to Kawhi or Brown. Just look at their numbers. George is a 3rd option at this point of his career. Will likely average 15-18 pts per game.

At some point you have to blame the performance on the court on the players on the court. Every loss is not the coach's fault and every win isn't because of the players.

Kawhi could miss the whole season. Same for any player but higher risk for Kawhi.

What I was trying to get at it is not trade values but what on-court value. Does Jaylen Brown have the same on-court value as Kawhi?

Assume a healthy Kawhi like he was last season.

Is Jaylen the better player?
Is Jaylen an equal player?
Is Jaylen an inferior player?

Is Toronto still a title contender with Jaylen rather than Kawhi? Or are they more of a mid-seed playoff team in the East? That is my main question.

-------

And the reason I am asking is all this talk of Jaylen's bad advanced stats. Jaylen finished ahead of Kawhi for MVP last season despite Kawhi having better advanced stats.

It also seems that most people are very high on Toronto after getting Kawhi. Would they have been as high on Toronto if that was Jaylen going there instead of Kawhi?
