Try and come up with 5 of worst time for the Celtics & their fans. If anyone can come up with something else, let us know:

1- Len Bias death
1- Reggie Lewis death
Both of these are 1 for me. Bias probably been top 20 player of all time

3- NBA giving Spurs Tim Duncan
Alway said they didn?t want Celtics to have Duncan

4- Trading Brown to a rival, Philly, for peanuts
There?s a thread for this and 99% of fans hate this

5- Gordon Hayward injury
He could been great here
C/PF-Horford, Baynes, Noel, Theis, Morris,
SF/SG- Tatum, Brown, Hayward, Smart, Semi, Clark
PG- Irving, Rozier, Larkin

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
I basically agree with your assessment, but I think this topic would better approached in a more specific way where we just talk about the worst trades in Celtics history.

On that note, I think this lines up more with the Antoine Walker trade. Team was starting to fade after some success and Danny made an out of left field deal to bring in an oft-injured Raef LaFrentz on a mega contract and a 1st round pick for our 3x all-star Antoine Walker. It took me years to forgive Danny for that trade as Antoine was my favorite player and he actively made the team worse.

Not sure where this takes us, but maybe we trade Paul George for Theo Ratliff and then trade Ratliff to a team with a Celtics insider who gives us a superstar back

I?d list championship losses like ?87 or 2010 as far worse than yesterday.  The Joe Johnson trade was worse than this trade IMO - combine that with selecting Kedrick Brown and Joe Forte and maybe that draft day turns out to be effectively among the worst days in history - a lot more impactful than yesterday. If you could pinpoint the moment Red decided not to salvage what he could get for the Big 3, that day might in retrospect be one of the worst (or most impactful) days.

Ultimately to me, the trade yesterday was just a bad trade. Left me feeling like Brad couldn?t possibly have found the best deal out there. But as far as setting this team back - I?m not all that certain about how much it did. While other moves couldn?t be recovered from, I believe this one can.

This list is great, I would change  one thing

1) Bias death
2) Reggie Lewis
3) Spurs getting Duncan
4) Trading Brown to Philly
5) Hiring of Rick Pitino as GM

My reasoning is I think Gordon was a good player, not a great player, but it was still bad.

2010 Game 7 for me.  Q4 specifically.

In the moment, dropping to five in the Oden/Durant draft was tough.

2010 Game 7 HAS to be on the list.

And probably top 3 on top of that.  This obviously sucks but that was worse.  And was the Bias & Lewis? deaths

To me, this trade is even worse than the Isaiah Thomas and Marcus Smart ones. Those were emotional ones too but at least you saw what was coming and felt, "alright, I can see it from a basketball standpoint". THIS?? I can't.

2010 Game 7 still hurts.

I think some of us are overrating JB a little too much. I'm just bummed about the package but I'll have to cope and hope PG remains healthy for the playoffs.

So you think many value him, but feel the package was a terrible, yet it is what the market offered meaning you also over-value him to some degree.

  • Yup
Bias's death will always be the worst.  Reggie's #2.  Hard to be worse than two guys in their prime dying.  Although both were results of decisions they made.

My 3rd least favorite would be Magic's hook shot in the Finals.  Until that point I was fairly convinced that the Celtics were invincible against the Lakers and Bird was superior all immortals.

2010 Game 7 against the Lakers next.

And then you can pick from any of a number of Game 7 home court pants poopings they've had in the last 20 years.

I'm more bewildered by the Brown trade then truly upset or sad.  I'mm mostly just annoyed by the state of the NBA where the suoer confusing financial rules make the dollar signs more important than the talent.

I mean Giannis was out there why didn't Brad go all in on that. Could've given Hugo and Baylor with him. Or even the Trey Murphy route. Or the Murray/Johnson route. It's definitely a lot better than a 36 year old in decline forward and four picks

The day Rick Pitino demoted Red from team president. That is on the list.

I am not that bothered by it.

I wanted Jaylen to stay. I saw few if any deals out there that made any sense. I didn't like Giannis. So I wanted to keep Jaylen.

I was shocked yesterday by how bad the trade package was with Philly. A 36yr old Paul George. 1 good 1st rounder and 1 distant first round which could be anything. Not a good return.

Despite that, the team is still in very good shape. They should be a very good but not great team next year. And with PG13 as an expiring contract the following year, and armed with all those draft picks, BOS should be able to go out and replace JB then. So we don't have a replacement today but I do think we will get one in 12-18 months time. Someone we can be happy with. I am okay with that. I can live with that.

I am not that upset anymore.
