Celtics are reportedly still interested in Trey Murphy.

The Celtics remain in the mix for Trey Murphy III, per @MikeAScotto.

Boston could build a trade package around the two first-round picks acquired from Philadelphia, and would be able to absorb Murphy through its $27.6M TPE created from the Anfernee Simons trade.

Sure, they can absorb him through the TPE, but they would need to send out roughly $20 million to not run into the hard cap.

Ok well, does this mean they are theoretically in the mix, as in *it?s feasible*.  Or does this mean that there are actually talks occurring.

One important question - why is Murphy on the trading block? Or is this more, Brad wants him and NO is willing to be blown away by an offer?

This is really scraping the barrel for cap space, but we could get there with Hauser + (Walsh, Danton, Williams, Cenac Jr)?

I haven't done any of the hard work on roster spots etc, just going by the $20M.

Guards: White / Pritchard / Hugo
Wings: Tatum / George / Murphy / Baylor / Harper
Bigs: Queta / Robinson / Garza

2-ways: our 2026 picks?

Does seem like a stretch but maybe within limits?

No, because you have to sign minimums to replace the guys you trade off.  Would need to get multiple second round rookies to sign to the minimum, since all other minimums would cost more than Jordan Walsh, for instance.

It is feasible, but only if White or George are sent out in exchange.    Up to you if you think that is realistic.

Yes but my question then is, is this just peripheral folks determining it?s possible or is it that Brad and NO are actually having talks?  I can?t read into the report above to answer that question.

It isn?t clear from the article that Scotto wrote:

Teams that are in the mix for Murphy to varying degrees now are the Celtics, Pistons, Warriors, Clippers, and Hawks, league sources told HoopsHype.

I imagine the C's are interested in a PG based deal and would wait the 60 days.

Makes me think it is trade speculation with Boston having interest but no indication of NO interested or in a conversation.  Maybe that?s what you mean by clear.  But I can be obtuse.

Yeah that is what I meant. He didn?t elaborate on what he meant by the phrase. So I am assuming it?s what you said. Boston is interested but they?re not deep in talks.

There is no 60 day limit that matters.  60 days is only relevant for aggregating salaries.  PG by himself can bring back $72 million in salary, so we do not need to aggregate if he is involved.

Why are they interested in Trey Murphy? According to the statheads, their favourite metric, EPM, rates him one spot above Jaylen. It's amazing how their narrative can't withstand even the slightest amount of scrutiny.
By the way, according to the Brad stathead fan club, their favourite metric, EPM, has Ty Jerome as the 8th-best player in the league. 😂😂😂

I have been beating the Ty Jerome drum since he was on OKC, so I am glad that EPM has caught up to me.

Would love to trade Hauser for him.

It's not gonna happen, they are gonna stay under the luxury tax to reset the penalties. The bigger issue is, Jaylen Brown became the corpse of Paul George and they also got limited picks out of it.

If they took the Portland offer, or even if Edgecomb and/or more first round picks were included at least it'd be a bit more fathomable, but this is terrible right now.

Shams and Himmelsbach both have also said there weren't any secondary moves or trades in mind when doing this trade, so that tells you what you need to know. I still wouldn't rule out them trading Hauser for a cheap player (like a backup big or wing) or even just to offload the money. But that's a minor move.

New Orleans have been rejecting offers for Trey Murphy but will deal him if they get a large offer. They are looking for 3 first round picks for him. Nobody has offered that yet.

I think he is worth it.

If we're hard capped, then we could theoretically do PG + Hauser + 3 picks for Murphy + Poole (expiring)? Possibly routing Hauser to a 3rd team so both NO and BOS can go slightly negative on payroll? Add in Hugo, Baylor or Cenac Jr. if they are valued?

NO gets their first rounders, we basically swapped Brown/Hauser for Murphy at 40% of the salary once Poole comes of the books?

I don't think that would excite NO too much, but we do at least have the quantity of picks. With Zion and PG at the helm, surely they'd be always injured and tanking, wooooo

I?m not clear on how much salary would need to be added to a Sam for Trae Murphy trade given TPEs. If doable, what do you think of Sam, Cs 27, Cs 31, (with protections) and Philly 31 for Murphy?

Or, DW for a straight salary match along with Celtics 27 and 31 firsts.

Ultimately the talent exchange would be JB and DW or Sam for PG and Trae.

Lots of possible iterations on these themes with the two seconds from the JB trade maybe having a little value.
