The efficiency breakdown for both players:Paul George (Philadelphia 76ers)True Shooting Percentage (TS%): ~58.4%Field Goal Percentage (FG%): 43.9%3-Point Percentage (3P%): 39.2%Turnover Ratio: Very careful with the ball, averaging only 1.73 turnovers per game.

Jaylen Brown (Boston Celtics)True Shooting Percentage (TS%): ~54.9%Field Goal Percentage (FG%): 47.7%3-Point Percentage (3P%): 34.7%Turnover Ratio: Higher volume but less careful with the ball, averaging 3.65 turnovers per game.

George is going to come in here and play his role(the JB role) more efficiently,  protect the ball much more and not force thing like JB (who said he is gonna get his when he thinks it's his turn, throw in his little one/two as he puts it) . For the next 2 seasons I don't see much of a drop off for George , who will average 15-17ppg with higher efficiency.  His defense is still really good and with Hugo, Schiermen and Harper, he won't have to carry a huge load in mins.

Plus he is up in 2 years and will open cap space to add around JT at that point.

Plus you get a bunch of picks and his expiring contract to use next year if some big name becomes available.

I honestly don't see much drop off

Pritchard is likely to start as well, giving us a much better group protecting the ball.

I mean I guess on the bright side, we won't have anymore your turn my turn basketball. And PG is a vet so he can whip the young kids into shape and share his knowledge on the court. No more bad handles tunnel vision that I got sick of seeing.

This is now Tatum's team and he is the true alpha. Everyone else is just his supporting cast.

Look, if Paul George can give us 60 regular season games and be healthy for the playoffs, it will be fine next year.  But meeting those conditions has happened once in the past 7 years.  Bump it down to 55 games and a healthy playoffs and it is only twice.  At age 36, it is even less likely.

I am willing to grant that Paul George is a better fit than JB, if healthy.  For a year.  But he is owed $56 million at age 37.  I had three conditions for a JB trade:

1) Get players who fill multiple holes
2) Create cap/tax flexibility
3) Get a haul on draft picks.

That is a nope on all 3.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
I know you are trying to make us feel better, but can we not do this? The only way this makes any sense is if we are moving George in another deal. But if people were scared off by Jaylen's contract, I'm pretty sure they are going to run screaming from George who is much older and worse than Jaylen

I think the kids are calling it Special K. Or at least they were back in 2001. George is just about old enough to have used it back then, too.

Some defensive stats - PG13 vs Jaylen

DRAPM - 1.8 (96th percentile) vs -0.9 (26th percentile)

Jaylen's DRAPM was better in previous season. It was -0.9 last season, -0.1 (70th percentile), 0.5 (85th percentile), 1.0 (92nd percentile), 1.2 (94th percentile) in his last 5 seasons. So it was probably lower than normal last year due to the situation he was in.

Paul George's DRAPM was better in previous seasons but that is expected given his age and year-on-year decline. So I see his latest seasons as the most accurate predictor.

DDPM - 0.8 (85th percentile) vs -1.3 (5th percentile)

Same trend. Jaylen was in the 39th-44th percentile in the 3 previous seasons. 77th percentile the year before that. PG13 shows decline year on year again.

Stop%
- 3.5% (94th percentile) vs 1.8% (30th percentile)

Stop% is steals, blocks recovered by your own team, charges drawn per 100 possessions. So PG13 gets you 3.5 possessions per 100 possessions and Jaylen gets you 1.8poss per 100poss.

Jaylen was 2.0% to 2.4% in the previous 4 years so likely down a bit last year from all the scoring he was shouldering and would bounce back next season. This put him in the 44th to 62nd percentile across those 4 seasons. PG13 has rated the same the last 2 years, lower 3rd year, higher 4th and 5th previous seasons.

dTS% - +0.9% (93rd percentile) vs -0.8 (4th percentile)

Again, Jaylen was better in previous seasons. The 4 previous seasons were -0.2 to 0.1. So fairly consistent. PG13 was better in previous when he was younger, healthier, more athletic as you would expect.

----------

Good chance the defense will be better next year with PG13 than it would have been with Jaylen. PG13 is more disruptive defensively. He creates more turnovers. He plays better team D. And his opponents shoot a lower percentage against his extra size & length than they do against Jaylen.

It's generally much easier to be efficient when you're not the team's top offensive option and the opposing defense isn't designed to stop you in one way or another.

All stats need context.

You do know how many games Paul G played in the regular season???? 37 Games!!! That is it, He will be a year older next season and people are hoping for 60 games!!!! this just makes no sense, PG is the worst Contract in the league and we took it on to get rid of JB.

He was suspended for 30 games, it wasn't from injury. And when he came back in the playoffs he was still a very good player.

Paul George played only 41 games during the 2024-2025 NBA season due to a series of nagging lower-body injuries that plagued his first year with the Philadelphia 76ers.  41 games, then 37 games!! Common Mannnnn!

How did JB and PG do when they went head-to-head?
