So there is growing evidence the ownership group could be PE ghouls like John Henry.

I really only have 2 complaints and if they had done the forst, the 2nd never would have come about.  I'll start with the 2nd, which is simply they should have done whatever qas needed to land Giannis.  Give him whatever salary he wanted and throw in the extra draft pick or young player.  They needed to get it done

The 1st and biggest criticism is simply Brad waiting a year to do this.  They should have just thrown in the towel last summer and traded Brown and White, not made the Mann dump off and collected a boatload of picks, young players, etc. all while tanking last year to land a high pick in the last draft.  It was obvious to me that that was the best strategy.  I think analytically they felt the team was going to be bad last year so they didn't need to go full bore, but they were wrong.  The team still somehow won even with it still being better with Brown on the bench.

I obviously am not a fan of the Sixers trade, but if they made that trade it was because it was the best offer and the offers would only get worse.  And they needed to move Brown, so it is what it is.  They just waited a year too long and then bundled the Giannis trade.  Those are the real errors.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

Listening to Felger and Mazz (and Zolak and Bertrand earlier) to hear their histrionics about this trade, and it looks like they've decided the pinata is not so much Brad, but Bill. As in Chisholm, and his private equity group. They're absolutely slamming him, saying he better not sit courtside next season, because people will be booing him and throwing rotten grapes at him  :police:

I remember John Havlicek Night when the fans booed the s--t out of then-owner Irv Levin and Levin looked shocked that the fans hated him so much. If not much changes between now and opening night, I would encourage Chisholm not to show up.

Who cares about Simmons? I don't get the angst over not signing him. He didn't move the needle, at all.

All these comments from other teams are just trying to pile on BS/Celtics at this point. If they had a better offer, they would have taken it. Fact is no one valued Jaylen very highly with his giant contract attached. I just hate that they had to take on PG with 2 years left on his deal. If PG had only 1 yr left, I'd be ok with this trade. As it is, we just traded one problem for another problem.

I love JB and hate to see him go, but the fact remains he's not a winning player. The team has won more over his career when he didn't play. Is there another "star" around the league whose team has consistently won at a much higher % when he doesn't play?

This was something I saw on Twitter and sadly it's relatable:

Quote
Celtics are starting to follow a playbook Boston has seen before:

? Move an expensive star
? Conversation shifts to questions about star?s personality or fit.
? Fans are told to wait because another move is coming.
? Payroll comes down.

Red Sox fans know this script.

I don't deny it. Every single move since new ownership has taken over has trended towards this. And frankly, I think people are naive to think they are just gonna spend to the levels of Wyc like they did around 2023-2025. I'm hopeful but I truly need to see it first. They are gonna keep the team "competitive" (make the playoffs, win a round or two) but never truly contend for a Finals. Kind of like the Red Sox, who occasionally make the playoffs or have good years but really no one ever looks at them as an ALCS/World Series contender anymore and every time it feels they have momentum, the ownership does something dumb and drastic (ex. Devers trade, letting Bregman walk, not replacing those guys, not signing stars in offseasons, etc.)

you people wanna send a message? easy

boycott the garden. stop watching. that is how you get action. all they know is $$$$$$$$

what a stain on ownership with nobody attending games. but this day and age the mindset is very weak and zero discipline. i have stopped watching many teams before until they made changes.

What Bill Simmons said was especially worrying. Chisholm has Brad in handcuffs, and because of that, Brad couldn't offer Giannis the contract he wanted, so he ended up choosing Miami instead.

Sure ownership loves BS last two years. Get under the tax and now send JB to an division rival that will guarantee sell out games. Even signing Robinson screams ownership move not a typical BS move.

BS needs to quit the Celtics. Get away from these owners and Joe.

More has come out today (shocking I know). There's an Athletic story saying the front office was split on JB, with Stevens being his biggest fan.  Yet they still move him.  Did ownership end up making the call?

Interestingly enough the article points to Game 7 vs Philly as reinforcing the view that he wouldn't fit moving forward. I thought he was our best player in that game and brought a lot of what he did during the regular season.

Their problems in that series were Queta sucking, White not making shots and no one being able to guard Maxey or Embid. Also the offense stagnating when they ran (primarily) through Tatum vs JB.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
Brad Breslow

If Brad trades for one of the best players in the league in his early prime and signs him to a fantastic contract, then we can talk. I know people hate Breslow, but Crochet was such a good move. And like our 3 best players this year were all offseason additions. Even Caleb Durbin is looking good lately.

Breslow just didn't anticipate a playoff team falling apart and of course injuries. I don't even really like Breslow, but I don't really know what everybody's issue is with him other than Red Sox fans being hysterically irrational all the time.
