I'm gonna need Stevens AND Bill Chisolm to have a press conference asap to explain this. Because this is unacceptable

It is because Boston was not going to give JB the extension. And from there a trade was going to be made.

We had 2.5 years to make that trade, though.  Brad panicked and took less value than Danny got for a restricted free agent.

Agree. Brad failed big time this summer but was it because new ownership said to get rid of him now.

They were better off just tanking last year and trading Jaylen then. What a joke

That ruined Brad's plan.

So the 76ers own their own pick in 2028 only if its 1-8. My guess is the C's get the 76ers pick outright if its 1-8. If its not then Boston will instead get the right to swap with the clippers pick in 2028. Either way Boston will likely get a very good pick in 2028.

The 2031 PHI pick is also valuable. Nobody on the 76ers in currently under contract for that year, an by then PHI will likely have massive tax issues.

So ya, the picks are actually pretty good, maybe even very good. The other motivation for this is money. Because of a trade kicker PG will actually makes EVEN MORE than JB this year. But they ave a few million next year when George picks up his player option.  And most importantly they save A TON OF MONEY in years 3, 4, 5 vs having to pay Jaylen a mass extension. Noboy expects them to extend PG, it would be insane to extend a 36-year-old, so they essentially get to be cheap under cover of this trade.

2028 is going to be a lottery pick from the Clippers. That is going to be a good pick.

This was all about finances, resetting next year, not having 2 super max players and getting off possibly 5 more years of JB at 5-70 mill a season.

PG is a two year experiment where they probably dump him after he opts in for his last year.

Problem is they wasted JT's prime with this.

Yep. I think a huge driver of this is getting off Jaylen's money COMPLETELY in years 3-5. And that's very disappointing.

The picks could be good, but we're talking about picks 2 and 5 years from now.

Wild how little value Brown ended up having. Maybe the picks end up being good I guess idk. But I would almost rather they just kept Brown and he did not play than this. The concern here is the Sixers are legit better now and PG has no value.

Brian Robb:

Here is the full rundown of Boston?s draft compensation, according to league sources.

A 2028 first-round pick: The Sixers own two first-round picks (their own and the Clippers?) so Boston will end up with the more preferable of those picks. This won?t be a pick swap as some have reported.

A 2031 first-round pick: This is an unprotected pick from the 76ers.

A 2028 second-round pick: This would be the most favorable pick among the Warriors, Thunder or Bucks selections.

A 2030 second-round pick: This would be the most favorable pick among the Blazers, Suns or Wizards picks.

Shams is still adamantly saying Jaylen did NOT request a trade.

So that means this was a Brad Stevens and/or Bill Chisolm move

Im trying to wrap my mind around the fact that there will still be people who will pay exorbitant ticket prices to go watch this team live next year. Im completely unwilling to even pay $25 a month to watch the games on Peacock. Just cant support the organization in any way after a move like this.

If we replace Brown with George, Robinson, and a TPE player, then we will be a better team this year.

That's a fact.

It could be. It would need to be a very good player coming back in the TPE though.

Someone like Trey Murphy.

Jaylen Brown was:

#2 in the league in isolation scoring last season
#2 in the league in scoring off of drives

The entire league.

Hauser (in trade exception)
2027 Celtics first
2028 pick swap (probably going to be the Clippers lottery)
2031 Sixers first (should be a decent pick)

For trey Murphy

This is the first time I've sat back dumbfounded wondering what is going on with BS.  This is the worst deal I've ever seen him make.  This makes no sense and I have zero interest in watching PG13 in green.  With this trade swap philly and boston in the standings from last year to next year.  When Tatum doesn't lead the team to a top 3 ECF record they will say see JB was better.  This is a no win situation but I expected something much better in return.  It's like brad sent the trade in via fax and they missed a page.  I need to stay away from the internet for a week.  Glad I just got my custom framed autographed JB jersey for my bday.  Fun times.  F Brad, F the new owners this team not only looks bad but I can't root for this garbage either.  They will be bad next year and get a high pick in a weak draft and now in 2028 the Spurs will be getting a great pick because the C's will stink.

We have no space to use a significant portion of the TPE.

The 2028 pick Boston is getting, or swapping, with the Sixers is kind of complicated.

Boston could get Philadelphia's pick if it lands 1-8. If that pick is 9-30 it's gone from the Sixers in a complicated swap that involves multiple teams.

If the Philadelphia pick is 9-30, then Boston could get the most favorable of their own pick and the LA Clippers pick that Philadelphia owns, with the less favorable pick staying with the Sixers.

I think that's how it will work out. More to come when it's all been sorted.

So that pick will either be a 76ers lotto pick or a Clippers lotto pick next year.

Unless the Clippers magically improve in the next two years and find a way to field a playoff team.

That should be a very good pick.

@Celtics2021 - After this trade, and with the Robinson signing, can we still use the TPE?

Is it possible that Stevens will use the TPE to take on Murphy for the picks he just got?

How does the cap work for this? Is there a certain order?

Do any cap people know the answer to this? I think we would go over teh 1st apron, but is this possible?

If we end up with George, Murphy, and Robinson this off-season, we would be a better team.

Currently no.  We're about $2 million below the tax line.  Even if we spent up to our first apron cap, we'd only be able to use around $10 million of the MLE.

The MLE or the TPE?

TPE, thanks.

Ok. So they'd need to include something like 17m to acquire a player at about the full TPE?
