@Celtics2021 - After this trade, and with the Robinson signing, can we still use the TPE?

Is it possible that Stevens will use the TPE to take on Murphy for the picks he just got?

How does the cap work for this? Is there a certain order?

Do any cap people know the answer to this? I think we would go over teh 1st apron, but is this possible?

If we end up with George, Murphy, and Robinson this off-season, we would be a better team.

Currently no.  We're about $2 million below the tax line.  Even if we spent up to our first apron cap, we'd only be able to use around $10 million of the MLE.

The MLE or the TPE?

Traded to Philadelphia (PHI) from Boston (BOS) for Paul George, a 2028 1st round pick [BOS right to swap] , a 2031 1st round pick [unprotected PHI pick] , a 2028 2nd round pick [most favorable of GSW/OKC/MIL] and a 2030 2nd round pick [most favorable of WAS/PORT/PHX]

I hope it's not a straight swap in 2028.  I had thought Shams had suggested that we get the pick outright if it's worse than ours.

There has to be another deal for something. They still have needs.

PG just is 36 and can't play more than 50 games a season. He outplayed JB in the playoffs...but you cannot count on that guy.

Maybe this is what JB was worth. Maybe he was not wanted with that contract.

You all get to root for who you want of course, but this trade, as ugly as it is - doesn't come close to ending my Celtics fandom.  Not even a consideration.

Feels like no way they needed to make this trade at this point.

I'm holding out some meager hope that they have a trade upcoming that could ease the pain a bit.

HoopsHype: Jaylen Brown finished No. 6 in MVP voting in 2025-26. Before Jaylen, the last player to finish Top 6 in MVP voting and get traded the following offseason was... Paul George.

I can?t be the only one who thought this was a hoax.

I'm still wondering if it is. And hoping it is.

I'm not a huge Brown fan -- in fact, I've had a hard time rooting for him?but if there's no other shoe to drop, then this deal is a real kick in groin. A washed-up Paul George? Yikes.

And what is it with Boston trades being crappy? First was Mookie for a bag of nothing, now this...

Either Brad is terrible, or most teams don't think as highly of Brown as Boston does.

I think if the pick is 9-30 in 2028...boston gets the better of the Sixers, theirs or rhe Clippers. It will be the Clippers and probably a lottery pick.

Ever since private equity ownership took over, it's been downhill since

I'm not sure what this trade has to do with private equity. George is making the same money as Brown over the next two years.

How did the Celtics not even get a Kawhi level trade out of this? I'd kill for Brandon Ingram and Grady Dick right now

Got out of the extra year and brown?s extension that you would have to give in the future.

Wasting Tatum's prime years.

This is horrendous.

PP
White
PG
JT
Robinson

That is a play in to low seed in the east at best
that team is better than the Celtics team that just got the 2nd seed

I do not think they are. Big questions about JT and his injury. White has lost his game and PG is washed. They are better at Robinson.

Now PP starts
there is not a single doubt in my mind that Tatum next year will be better than Brown was this year.  Tatum is better than Brown, even last year in limited minutes it was obvious and it wasn't close.  Tatum is simply better than Brown at everything, even post injury.  White may continue his slight downward trend, but I'd be shocked if he hits the cliff next year.  George is fin as a 3rd option.  He can still shoot good and defend, pass, and rebound well.  PP started last year.  Boston has a clear upgrade at center.  Boston will absolutely be a better team than they were last year.

All that said, they aren't meaningfully closer to winning a title next year, but they weren't all that close before in my view anyway, even with Robinson.  The Tatum/Brown duo had run it's course.  They weren't winning a title again together.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

The Celtics were originally asking the Sixers to include VJ Edgecombe in the Jaylen Brown trade alongside Paul George, per
@ShamsCharania
.

Boston?s asking price on Brown continued to fall over the past few weeks until they accepted Philadelphia?s deal centered on George + picks.

You trade Jaylen to a rival, and don't even get back Edgecomb or Maxey. Holy moly Brad...

I remember mentioning a Jaylen for PG13 trade idea but that also involved VJ Edgecombe coming back as well.

I can't believe this deal.

I cheer for the Cs no matter what. But I am failing to see the vision on this one.
