Think his abilities are that of a 13-15 player and he is getting near vet min so not a bad deal. I do question the length of the deal though. You usually don't look to keep low end rotation guys more than two years as you need roster spots for 1st round guys you need to develop. Hopefully it's a sign Cs are trading a bunch of picks to upgrade a position soon.

I would be surprised if Year 3 is guaranteed.  It will probably be similar to the one Queta signed two summers ago.  Year 1 guaranteed, Year 2 partially guaranteed, year 3 with a team option and partially guaranteed if the option is picked up.  If they need that roster spot, and Harper has not earned the right to stick around, it will not be difficult to move on from him.  That deal worked for both sides, and hopefully this one does as well.

They basically signed him to a 3yr vet minimum deal. Harper may have his detractors, but he's a solid regular season player you can put at a variety spots and he'll perform pretty well. I think he has enough of a track record by now to warrant that value, so I am happy to have him locked up 'long term'. Easy enough to dump if need be, too.

I am surprised people are as high as they are on Ron Harper Jr. I agree he is interesting and I am happy they are keeping him but he has proven very little.

He only played 300 minutes last season. He struggled to score effectively. 41.8% FG 35% 3PT which are mediocre numbers. 55% TS mediocre. He did not accomplish much as a playmaker despite being a ball-handler and a passer. 22 assists in 318 minutes. That is one every 14 and a half minutes. And he played some good defense but nothing special like J Walsh or Hugo.

This was his 4th year in the league. He had 69 minutes total in his 3 previous years.

I don't think anybody is particularly high on him, just that he is a solid guard/wing with a versatile skillset who has at least lit up G-League. He doesn't necessarily have a high ceiling, but his ability to play on or off the ball, defend decently, and shoot the 3 make him a solid utility player - especially if the team is dealing with injuries.

Signing a guy like that who you know fits in with the team/culture to a minimum contract is a reasonable thing to do. And he may even have some untapped potential with more playing time. I'm cool with it. For a minimum, he is a solid player to have.

this.

the kid can play.  he's no all-star but for the most part he's got solid guard skills and makes stuff happen when he gets playing time.

Hmm ... I am not even sure he is an NBA player.

He has a chance to be an NBA player because he has good size and okay athleticism to play 3 positions and he can play defense. Still remains to be seen whether he can play any offense.

I don't put much stock in G-League numbers.
