Boston Celtics G/F Ron Harper Jr. intends to sign a new three-year, $9 million deal to return to the franchise, sources tell ESPN. The Celtics are declining Harper's $2.6M team option, clearing the way for the sides to commit on a longer deal.

The bigger question is will they do this with Walsh or Queta.  My guess is no for Queta? because doing so would cut into tax space substantially (the contract would certainly be more than Harper is getting).  Walsh is a restricted free agent if we decline his option, however.  Maybe they would give him a medium raise to lock him in for a few more years, although I personally do not think he has shown enough.  That is a more likely option if Jaylen is traded this weekend, since Walsh has a option possibility on Monday.

Having medium sized (i.e. tradeable) contracts isn?t the worst thing in the world in today?s NBA.

I like this signing. Harper is a good player who can make winning plays when he?s out there.

Yeah, I root for Walsh, but he's a fringe NBA player without a ton of expected upside.  Those generally aren't the types of guys you extend, unless he's willing to take a multi year deal near the minimum with team options./ non-guaranteed salary (sort of like Svi's deal in Utah)
