On Tuesday's Early Edition, Chris Mannix of Sports Illustrated shared what he's hearing about what's next for the Celtics and Jaylen Brown. Mannix shared that the C's are still fielding calls on Brown, and there's one big man that stands out as a potential trade match:

"I spent some time this afternoon talking to different teams about what the Celtics might be interested in, and the name and team that came back to me a lot was Evan Mobley and the Cleveland Cavaliers," Mannix said.

That works

If they wouldn't include Mobley for Giannis, they aren't going to include him for Brown, at least without significant draft compensation also going.

Living here in Ohio...a lot of Cavs media want Brown for Mitchell, not Mobley.

Hard pass. He is soft. Did not show up in the playoffs at all.

I know he's only 25, but I feel like the story with Mobley is just "potential". We've been hearing it for 3+ years now and he's shown some improvement but not a ton. His postseason numbers look solid and he did show flashes in the 2024 series vs. Boston but he really hasn't impacted winning as much. He's definitely not worth giving up Jaylen Brown for, unless more is coming back. Even then I'd lean no.

that isn't really true.  His playoff numbers were fairly close to his regular season numbers.  He is a 3rd option offensively.  People expecting more than that get disappointed that he isn't more of a scorer that that, but he rebounds and defends at an elite level and did all playoffs.  OG had by far his worst playoff series against Mobley and Towns wasn't very good either.  Mobley can also play everywhere ont he floort on offense making him a good fit for every style.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
He?s no Giannis, but he would fit in extremely well. I wonder if Joe could get more out of him from an offensive assertiveness standpoint

It is not assertiveness. It is skill. It is his lack of skill.

He has no shot creation. He has a poor 3pt shot. A dodgy long 2pt shot. A mediocre midrange shot. He is not a real threat to score when he is outside the paint. He has no go-to moves outside the paint.

His only go-to moves are post ups inside of the paint.

Why would Brad put Jaylen Brown on a team with Donovan Mitchell and James Harden that is also in the east? Brad is, uh, smarter than that.

so they can lose early and Boston can win the title.

How did he go from DPOY to not even making an all-defense team?

The Bucks seemed to want to get off of Portis' contract too, which may be a big reason why the Cavs wouldn't do Mobley for Giannis.

If as part of the trade value, we offered to take Struss or Schroeder into our TPE, that trade could make sense for both teams.
