Barrett is drawing trade interest across the league

No confirmation that Toronto is trying to trade him.

Barrett averaged 19 PPG, 5 RPG, 3 APG, on 49% shooting from the field. He has also really improved his defense these past few years. There is one more year remaining on his contract at $29.6 mill.

What is your level of interest in Barrett, and what would you be willing to give up?

I think he wouod be an interesting target, especially if JB is traded.

Idk for sure about Barrett, but the Raptors did have interest in Derrick White a year ago and were even dangling #9 for him at the time. Is there a potential framework where you could trade White for Barrett and another player (or picks)?

But honestly I'd prefer to keep White in this scenario.

I expect TOR are trading RJ Barrett for talent rather than dumping him so he would be expensive to acquire. They are looking to get to the next level and go from a low seed playoff team to a title contender.

Also, part of the reason they are having discussions about Barrett is his contract is up and they are not sure how much they want to pay him. So that is another consideration in acquiring him. How much would you be willing to pay him on an extension? I am guessing he will command anywhere from $30mil to $40mil.

Man, D White would be so nice on that team.

Help balance their backcourt with Quickley. A more defensive minded guard who will move the ball and free Quickley up to do what he does best - scoring. Two ball-handling guards. Two ball-handling forwards in Ingram and S Barnes.

D White can have a big impact with moderate scoring. He doesn't need the ball in his hands as much. A good fit with their scorers (S Barnes, B Ingram, Quickley). A better fit than RJ Barrett who wants to jack up shots.

There is a question as to how good is RJ Barrett.

He is sorta a tweener player. Like an oversized SG or an undersized SF. Never mastered a position. Never mastered a skill. A sold shooter but not an above average nevermind great shooter. Never developed his ball-handling and passing beyond a solid / capable level. Never developed his defense. A bit too slow in covering SGs and a bit too small in covering SFs.

He puts up numbers but there are real questions as to how much impact he actually has. As well as how dependable he can be. He goes missing for periods. You never know which version of him you are going to get. The consistent scorer or the inefficient underachiever.

----------

I was trying to figure out where to rank him among starting SGs and I was having a hard time picking a slot and feeling confident about it.

And the SG position is the weakest position in the league. A SG who can get 20ppg and has some level of all-around game should be comfortably in the top 10 or threatening the top 5. Yet ... I'm not convinced he is.

I feel more confident in D White at the SG position. I do have him threatening that top 5 ranking. Him and D Bane. Ant, D Mitchell, A Reaves is my top 3. S Castle, D White, D Bane my next 3. Then NAW (with McCollum starting PG) & Knueppel. Then Jrue (with Lillard starting at PG next year). That is my top 8.

Then I have some rankings of Nembhard, RJ Barrett, Lu Dort, Norm Powell, Amen Thompson. Then less consistent guys like Edgecombe & Zach LaVine.

I would do Barnes  for Brown,   I would want their 19th pick as well.  I doubt they would do it, but Barnes is all around player.  He makes guys good around him.
