Final Pre-Draft Forum Poll: Trade For Giannis Or Build Around The Jays?

I really think the Giannis trade will happen tomorrow or this weekend.

1st round of the Draft starts June 23, 8 PM. 5 days away.

This is kind of a big moment too, because it's probably going to decide if we just go with the Jays for the next handful of years, or will they pull a Kevin Garnett-type trade involving Al Jefferson/Jaylen Brown and run it with a different duo for the next 4-5 years. Jaylen's value probably won't be higher than it is now, and he's extension eligible so in one way or another, a lot will be determined. I'm kinda scared to see what happens, but I trust in Brad.

Also I'm not bothering with the non-Jaylen trades for Giannis. It's do-able, yes, but I just don't think it's realistic and even on our end, we'd have to send out so much just to salary-match beyond White and Hauser (like 2 of Hugo/Baylor/Pritchard/Queta). We'd have a very thin bench with not many avenues to bolster it unless a bunch of people want to ring chase hard on the minimum. And is Jaylen fine becoming a 3rd option here? Probably not.

no deal.  I have my doubts about Giannis health particularly with him also looking for a new contract extension that's more expensive per year than JB.  I also have concerns with his playing style being able to be incorporated into this team's (i.e. coaching) philosophy on top of his recent track record of being a complainer and reluctance to play center if it benefits his team.

3 years ago, I'd probably be on board.  now, I have some serious concerns that this will backfire badly

You absolutely do this trade. Giannis is going to be a culture changer. All that ?killer instinct? people keep lamenting over, he will bring it.

The Jays are good and can win a championship, especially when the threes are dropping. Giannis-Tatum is better with a wider margin for error.

All depends on Giannis' health. What do Brad & Co. know about his status and future vulnerability to injuries ?
We need a minimum of 3 consistently healthy seasons from Giannis to make this worth doing.
What we do not need is a repeat of Kemba Walker, who had minimal injury history until we got him just in time for the wear and tear of his heavy career minutes to start producing chronic injuries.

If you cant trade picks, White and Hauser for a big man than Brown for Giannis is on the table for me.

Team needs a force inside that can still deal with guys like Wemby, Towns or Jokic when they want to bomb threes and run pick n roll. Giannis also attacks these guys on offense and easily gets them in foul trouble.

It's on BS to find an answer.

I love Jaylen Brown. If it is Jaylen and our future ability to get better? Pass. If it is something like Jaylen and 27 (or a future 1st), I think you have to do it.

But don't overpay. We will need to make move around Tatum/Giannis over the next couple years.

It's a no for me. I'm concerned with Giannis' game as he ages. His game is based on his physical/athletic gifts and that could go downhill fast. Plus, he seems to have had some attitude issues recently. There is just something about him recently that keeps me from wanting to have to root for him...it's similar to how I felt about Cam Newton joining the Patriots. I'd rather roll with the two home grown guys that have given their heart to this team and city.

I'm a yes for Giannis. That is a no-brainer of a deal for me.

But I'm also a Jaylen for younger pieces, picks. Somebody with star potential. Having two supermax contracts seems untenable in this current climate, especially if one of the supermax players isn't really worth his contract. I can see it with Giannis since his potential is well above supermax level, but this is as high as Jaylen's value will ever be and I wouldn't mind cashing in on it for a great deal.

Of course I've loved the Jays era, but running it back and losing in the 1st or 2nd round next year will kill the value of everybody but Tatum. This team created a lot of aura because of how much playoff success we've had for so many years. We are kind-of getting a pass because of the Tatum injury, but losing early again will just make us a boring, average team.

Prefer to trade for Giannis. But that is not going to happen so it will be the Cs running it back with the same roster hoping for a better result.

I really hope Brad does something in FA because they have a huge whole at center and need another combo guard starter type. But this feels like a stay the course type summer where they feel like if they are healthy they are good enough to win the East.

I just have real concerns that the volume 3 style just will not work and Joe has absolutely no idea how to do anything other than that. And they still cannot generate good looks with this roster.

Bench will be once again pretty young and a question mark IMO. They really need Hugo and Baylor to take the next step. Walsh is pretty much just a body are this point. Would be nice for Harper to turn into a hidden gem.

If Giannis did not have these injury issues, it would be an easy decision in favour of Giannis.
