On top of all the Giannis rumors this trade up rumor dropped this morning.
I'm sure this is Stevens performing his due diligence in the case that a player high on the Cs board starts slipping on draft night. Fueled by speculation from Sam Vecnie on "The game theory podcast" that Detroit might entertain a Hauser for #21 deal I will be curious if we see that type of trade on draft night. Could Hauser + #27 start a conversation with the Hornets at #18? Feels unlikely in a strong draft but who knows.
So is the speculated DET deal Hauser for #21 or Hauser + #27 for #21? I see it as likely that Hauser gets traded to create some salary space. If we could get #21 for Hauser, I would take that deal. We could still use the $27M TPE to then bring in a player.
The deal discussed on "Game Theory" was just Hauser for #21, I suspect it would be more like Hauser +27 for 21 + future 2nd? or Hauser +40 for 27?
Tough to predict who could be available as the trade up target, maybe Cenac or Carr if they fall out of the teens?
That is a big difference. If we can get pick #21 from DET straight up for Hauser, I would do that but my expectation would be that the pick may end up going to MIL as part of a Giannis + Portis for Brown deal. Hauser needs to go out if Portis comes back to stay under the 1st apron. MIL may not want Hauser so he can go to another team.
If Detroit needs to trim salary they will need to trade a player. Would a beef stew and 21 for Hauser and 27 work? They need to give Duran some big money soon as well.
if that were the deal I'd do it in a heartbeat. Thing is, I don't know that Det wouldn't see Stewart as more valuable and want more than Hauser and #27. Brad would have to make a sales pitch that unloading an extra year of Stew's contract isn't worth more compensation to them.
Ideally, we'd just move Hauser for #21 but Spotrac is rejecting that trade. I'm sure there's some finagling Brad could do -- maybe Hauser and #40 for Stew and #21 as a 'favor' to Det for taking on that larger contract (both per year and in length)
