Guard Keyonte George has agreed to a five-year, $157.5 million contract extension with the Utah Jazz, sources told ESPN.

The deal does not include a team or player option, sources said. The terms were finalized Friday after months of negotiations between George's agent Jason Ranne of The Team and Jazz president of basketball operations Austin Ainge.

George's new deal will account for approximately 16% of Utah's salary cap.

George, 22, the 16th pick in the 2023 draft, cemented himself as an essential piece of the franchise's foundation with a breakout campaign last season. He averaged 23.6 points and 6.1 assists while shooting 45.6% from the floor and 37.1% from 3-point range -- all career bests. -ESPN

Interesting contracts

(1) Pelle Larsson getting an MLE level deal when he is somewhere around the 45th best SF in the league is ridiculous. More long term damage to Miami. It has been a terrible summer for them. Getting Giannis will wreck them for years to come.

(2) Keyonte George being paid only $32mil a year seems like a bargain. Why would he sign that? Wait a year. He should be looking for $45-50mil. He gave Utah one heck of a bargain priced contract. He should be looking at himself as an All-Star candidate after the offensive numbers he put up last season. $30mil is more like the 20th best PG in the league. So Utah have basically paid him for what he is right now and zero dollars for any potential. He shores up his defense some and he is an All-Star PG for the next 7-10 years.

(3) Ausar Thompson for $31mil a year seems reasonable. Hard to put a price on Ausar. His defense is impeccable but his offense is still deplorable.  Similar to that Jaden McDaniels contract for Minny. Probably never be a bargain. Never be a terrible deal. Will just be okay for the duration. Hopefully.
