Free agent center Kevon Looney has agreed on a one-year, $3.9 million deal with the Los Angeles Lakers, Life Sports Agency CEO Todd Ramasar tells ESPN.

That makes we happy, at least.

Ha! Another bad signing by LAL.

Why didn't they keep Jaxson Hayes? He was a much better player today than this broken down old man version of Kevon Looney.

Some early win totals via
@DKSports

Wolves 49.5
Heat 48.5
Raptors 47.5
Celtics 51.5
Sixers 48.5
Pacers 44.5 (?!)
Thunder 60.5
Spurs 59.5
Knicks 53.5
Lakers 47.5

Interesting.  The Celts are second in the East among listed teams (where are the Pistons, Cavs, etc.), but they're expected to regress by three games despite a healthy Tatum and adding Mitchell.  I'm sure that bakes in the Paul George downgrade.

It factors in that the Raptors, Wizards, Heat, and Cleveland (if they add LeBron), will all be better.

The Celtics - Jaylen Brown + Tatum (Full Season) + Mitchell + George = #2 in (a much stronger) East

51.5 wins in 2026-27 >  56 wins in 2025-26

It also bakes in that teams at the bottom are unlikely to be tanking to the same degree, because of reduced lottery odds for the bottom 3 teams.  There will be limited off nights this year.  This is why the Spurs and Thunder are projected downward by a similar amount.

Yes, all of the above.  The Celtics had no business winning 56 games last season, anymore than the Pats had winning 14.  The Pats are better this year but are not expected win more games.  Same for the Celtics.  This year's team looks better to me than the team last season, at least the team before Tatum came back.  But it would not be smart to bet on everything going right again for the Celtics.

BOS will easily eclipse 51.5 wins. That is set too low.

They will be a 55-60 win team.

You think?  I had last year's team at 41 wins, boy, was I wrong.

If you?re correct, fun season ahead.  I think that has to mean some good player stories and a cohesive group.  Also means a 100% JT.  All the negativity surrounding the trade will dissipate quickly if the Cs are winning at a 55-60 win clip.

I am not sure on win total, but I already have multiple bets down for the Celtics to reach the Finals.

The Cleveland Cavaliers have re-signed center Thomas Bryant, Cavaliers President of Basketball Operations Koby Altman announced today.

NBA.com

Thomas Bryant is their main backup big man now with Dean Wade gone. Maybe they give Nae'qwan Tomlin some more minutes as well as a backup PF who can't shoot. Neither is enticing.

Their failure to replace Dean Wade will hurt them. Well, unless they get LeBron. Then he can cover this hole in the rotation.

The only way I see this team in the low 50s is if Tatum misses a chunk of time with his achilles.

There is too much talent on this team to win only 51-52 games.
