Only first round pick the Lakers have control of btw now & 2033 is their 2032 pick.

Yikes. That is not a good enough roster for being completely depleted of assets. They have no interesting young players and no picks.

The Celtics have a better roster right now.

And better set for future.
failing to see the downside as a C's fan.  Lakers really seem to be painting themselves into a corner for the next few years

Seriously.  Barring trades this is their roster for the next two seasons really.  And they are running out of things to trade.  Their only advantage is that they are still the Lakers and players force themselves there, but that is what they have to rely on.

Players can try to force themselves there, but they have no picks to trade and their player assets are pretty meh. I'm not sure why a team would make a trade with them even if one of their players is trying to force their way there. That team would be better off just letting their player expire or taking less from another team

Don't they have that goat of an owner named Mark Walter? Fortunately, in the NBA, there are salary caps applied unlike the MLB where they can just blow triple-d millions to multi players like nothing

You say that and yet Luka for AD happened, so I do not want to jinx it.

Their backup wings prior to this were Ben Sheppard (SG) and Johnny Furphy (SF). So this is an upgrade.

Ben Mathurin was their previous main backup wing but he went to LAC in the Zubac trade ... leaving those 2 guys as the next options in the rotation.

G: Tyrese Haliburton, TJ McConnell
G: Andrew Nembhard, Ben Sheppard
F: Aaron Nesmith, Kelly Oubre
F: Pascal Siakam, Obi Toppin
C: Ivica Zubac, Jay Huff

Others: Johnny Furphy, Jarace Walker, Micah Potter

Title contender.

I think they like Furphy.

I don't really know if I agree they are a title contender. Need to see that Haliburton is back to his magic.

I am going to go with Indiana & Boston as the top 2 teams in the East. I'll go further. I'll add Toronto. Indiana, Boston, Toronto are my top 3 teams in the East in some order.

I do not have NYK at the top because they lost Mitchell Robinson and they now have one of the worst benches in the league. I have them a level below these 3 teams. I see them as a 2nd tier team in the East.

I have Detroit on the same level as NYK. They need to add more offense to their team. More shooting, more scoring, more playmaking. They are far too dependent on Cade Cunningham. I do not trust them in the playoffs.

I have Cleveland below DET & NYK in my 3rd tier.

Just in: Free agent forward Tobias Harris has agreed to a two-year, $31 million deal with the San Antonio Spurs, sources tell ESPN. Harris exits the Pistons after helping lead a franchise turnaround and now joins a young contending team in the Western Conference.

Mmm ... nice. I did not see that one coming.

Good contract too. MLE money.

There are many things in this world that mystify me.

Near the top of the list is the love for Tobias Harris.

I don't think the Spurs are better with him.

I would love to see San Antonio move Devin Vassell to the bench instead of Julian Champagnie to make room for Tobias Harris in the starting lineup. Champagnie is bigger and better defensively than Vassell.

G: D Fox, D Harper
G: S Castle, D Vassell
F: Champagnie, Carter Bryant
F: Tobias Harris, Keldon Johnson, Harrison Barnes
C: Wemby, L Kornet, Tarris Reed Jr

Option 2: Start D Vassell and bring Champagnie off the bench.

Option 3: Keep last year's starting lineup. Use T Harris as main bench forward.

Detroit Pistons

So they have now lost both Tobias Harris and Isaiah Stewart from last year's team. They have added rookie Ebuka Okorie and John Collins. And intend to trade Marcus Sasser.

G: Cade Cunningham, Daniss Jenkins, Ebuka Okorie
G: Duncan Robinson, Isaiah Joe
F: Ausar Thompson, C LeVert, K Huerter, Ron Holland
F: John Collins, (Ausar)
C: Jalen Duren, Paul Reed

That big man rotation is light. I wonder if they would bring Andre Drummond back. Beef up that center position.

Mamu & Wemby played 139 minutes together in 2024-25. They were a -3.1pts per 100 possessions.

Surely Wemby would be the best man alive to make Mamu work at the PF position. Did not work. Now LAL will try to play him at PF alongside Luka & A Reaves. It will not work.
