Marc Stein with some Kawhi updates:

(1) First choice is to remain with LAC
(2) Happy to sign contract extensions with his former teams San Antonio Spurs or Toronto Raptors if traded there. Toronto is interested in a reunion. These are the only 2 teams he is currently willing to sign an extension with outside of LAC.
(3) Not willing to sign a contract extension with DET or MIA.

That new Portland owner may force team out of the city

Quote
The battle lines are rapidly hardening in the Portland arena renovation funding right, and the message from Trail Blazers owner Tom Dundon is stark and clear: Don?t expect me to help pay for it.

A day after Portland Mayor Keith Wilson publicly pleaded with the city council to approve up to $120 million in municipal funding to renovate the Moda Center, Dundon appeared at a Portland Metro Chamber event late Wednesday and said private financing is not part of his vision to upgrade the 31-year-old, publicly owned venue.

?It feels like we?re making a pretty big investment by staying here and paying these tax rates,? Dundon said at the event, which the business group held at the Moda Center.

Forced out would be the wrong turn of phrase.

A more apt description would be scumbag billionaire holds a local institution hostage. The only person that is worse than Dundon, is the widow of Paul Allen, who sold the Blazers to that greedy Edited for profanity.  Please do not do it again. without legal assurances the team would stay in Portland.

The Hornets are actively engaged in trade talks with the Celtics for Jaylen Brown, per

Bridges, B.Miller, and Mann. I?d probably make that trade. Brandon Miller has a ton of upside. He averaged 21ppg his second year in the league. Not many players are able to do that.

That would be a pretty poor return for a durable All-NBA Finals MVP.

Both Bridges & Miller are rather unproven and on expiring deals. Miller only played 65 games this season & 27 the previous season.

Heck no to Bridges.

It could just be looped into the Melo-Randle superdeal.  Miller and Reid make the salaries work for Charlotte; heck Miller alone does.  Miller, Diabate, and picks gives us a $57 million TPE for Jaylen, and we would be below the tax by about that amount.  So much flexibility.

Miller looks good.  He averaged 20 points on good efficiency on one of the surprise teams of the year.  He is a recent #3 overall pick entering the 4th year of his contract, so he is both extendable this summer and would be a restricted free agent next offseason if an extension did not happen.  He would be a good get.  He compares very favorably to JB at a similar point in their career.  Injuries are a legit concern. He has had a couple upper-body ones that have caused him significant missed time.  (Wrist in year 2, shoulder last fall with a surgery last month to further fix it.  That said, he played great despite being hurt most of the year, sort of like JB has been known to do).

Bridges no.  No reason to take him on.  It would be a PR disaster trading a franchise player for someone with his history.

Yeah no thanks with the Hornets, I don't really covet much from them

Also I think there's no choice in a deal but to take Bridges back just to make salaries work. People here want him too?

I think Brandon Miller, Naz Reid, and picks would be a pretty similar trade package to the supposed one by the Pelicans (Murphy, Jones, and picks).

Hmm ... Brandon Miller scares me.

For a guy his size, he gets to the rim and to foul line very little. This leads to only a small chunk of his offense generated high percentage buckets. Then he takes half of his shots from 3.

He averages about as many turnovers as assists. 1.36:1.00 AST:TOV ratio or his career. That falls to 1:1 without LaMelo.

He doesn't rebound much. 4.6rpg in 31.4mpg for his career. For a guy with his size, length and athleticism ... that is poor.

Diabate would be an interesting player to get in the deal. One of the top 10 defensive centers in the league. Give us a 2 man center rotation of Diabate & Queta.

Apparently that new Blazers owner was only willing to offer Tiago Spillter a contract worth $1.0mil to 1.5mil per year. The average for NBA coaches is $5mil. That is why Splitter turned down Portland and went to Chicago instead.

I haven't seen what Micah Nori got. I imagine he also got the $1mil type range from Dundon.

If you can land Brandon Miller you do it, kids a great shooter with great size. He just needs to work on shot selection and getting to the line where he shoots 90%
