I know he's almost 40, but if he could be managed and be a 4th big after Gannis,  Queta, Garza. He could be a great option as a role player in the playoffs. Only making 5 mil

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
Al was great while he was here and by all accounts was a beloved teammate, but I think that ship has sailed. We'll bring him in for a year and then he'll leave to go play for the Rockets or something. He did his job and helped get us a championship, but he obviously doesn't want to be in Boston.

The question, why would we want him?   He had a bad year this year.

In retrospect, sure, it ended up that BOS had a better season than GSW.  At the time though, I thought going to GSW made way more sense for Horford.  And in the end, he only was able to play 45 games.  In those games, his production was very comparable to what he did the last season in BOS, especially when you consider his minutes were down from about 27.7 min to 21.5 min.  I did not see any of his games this season but I am not sure he played all that bad, when he played.

All that said, I don't see him as what BOS should be looking for.   I expect that teams like LAL, NYK, even SAS would show some interest.  His available games and minutes will probably continue on the downward trajectory.  BOS needs a starter or a regular rotation big, not limited games/minutes big.  It is possible BOS could add both, but I don't see it.  I would expect that if Horford gets a good offer in a good situation, he will play another year, if not, he will simply retire.

Horford left not once but twice for perceived greener pastures and he was wrong both times.  I never want to see him wear the Celtics uniform again.   After he retires he can come back with the team to celebrate the title, but otherwise I'm done with him.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

As much as I liked his game and him, I feel the same way.  This team doesn't need a two time quitter (lack of team loyalty).
