So I think at this point there's actually been too much dunking on the Heat-Giannis trade package.

Herro- Was injured last year but he's only one year removed from being a very deserving all-star and is only 26.
Ware (#15 in 24')- Very intriguing young 3+D center prospect.
Jaquez (#18 in 23')- Averaged 15/5/5, solid starting SF caliber player at 25 years old.
Jakucionis (#20 in 25')- 20 year old who showed some flashes as a rookie SG.
13th pick is decent
Likely 2 picks between 2029 and 2032. Those are Giannis' age 34-37 years. Those could be VERY good picks if Giannis ages poorly.

That's one all-star level flier/rehabilitation project, 3 former first round picks on rookie contracts, and three pretty decent future firsts. There isn't a top tier level asset or player, but there's a pretty decent depth of talent and potentially a ton of salary relief. You might be able to then flip Hero or Turner for additional assets mid-season.

Like is that package so much worse than let's say
Risacher, Kuminga, #8 and two future firsts from Atlanta? I don't really think so.

Its obviously worse than getting your own pick back from Portland, but it's not a pile of garbage by any means for a guy with one year left on his deal.

Hmmm, Celtics with a +500 odds to win the 2027 chip. Knicks open at fourth place with +700 odds.

Surprised the Spurs are +250 with how bad they've played in the Finals. I bet teams in the West have already figured out their weaknesses. West still goes through OKC imo.

It's not that it's garbage, it's more that there is nothing you can point to in the deal and say, wow, I can't wait to build around that guy. Or, those picks are so good. When a team is trading a player like Giannis, you want to be able to sell to your fans what you got back. Tyler Herro and the 13th pick in the draft is such a huge downgrade.

I know they don't want Jaylen, but at least they could make Jaylen the new face of the franchise and use him to sell tickets. With Miami, they don't even really get to rebuild.

I agree that the Atlanta package isn't awesome, but recent #1 pick, guy still with loads of potential, and the #8 pick (which is much better than #13) still seems better to me

The Heat offer to the Bucks is just a bunch of cat turds. Bucks will only take that deal if it is the last one on the table.

Ware is lazy and even Spo could not break him out of it.
Herro is always hurt and couldn't guard me.
Jacquez is bench piece
The PG got zero run last season

the picks would be pretty mid.

If the Bucks liked that deal they would have taken it at the deadline.
Why would Giannis want to go play with Bam and a bunch of mid players in Miami? He had that in Milwaukee.

The Bucks IMO want their picks back from Portland more than anything. If they could get JB and send him there for picks and some young pieces so they can bottom out they will do that.

Probably see a Giannis trade this week after Knicks winning dies down. Usually teams wait till after Finals so don?t distract the Finals going on
C/PF-Horford, Baynes, Noel, Theis, Morris,
SF/SG- Tatum, Brown, Hayward, Smart, Semi, Clark
PG- Irving, Rozier, Larkin

I feel like the Heat have tried to trade Herro for 3 years now and it never happens, usually with the other side trading with someone else or just rejecting the Heat.

If no one else makes a competitive offer, MIL will take it. But yeah I'm in that camp of believing Herro + 13 as the "signature pieces" in a Giannis trade would be tough to sell to my fanbase if I'm the Bucks. I like Ware the player a lot but his last season was a bit weird, he stagnated and it seemed Spo had issues with him too behind the scenes. Jacquez/Jovic are meh, average players right now.

NBA draft is June 23. I do think this week will be a heavy Giannis week, ending in a trade by the end of the week or weekend. Team(s) TBD.

Could be Bill Simmons making stuff up, but he is saying that we actually made an offer for Giannis:

Quote
"I think they dove in. From what I heard, they've made an offer in the past week. A couple of days ago before I mentioned on Thursday. I don't know what the offer was, and I don't know who's in it, but they are in."

Pretty big, if true. I'd imagine MIL is about ready to make a decision at some point.

Man, I don't want Giannis. He is going to mess up Tatum's game. Giannis is a bad teammate offensively. He can't shoot. He insists on the dribbling the ball over and over 25 feet from the hoop despite not being able to score out there. He stagnates the offense. He can't play a two-man game. He is not good off the ball. He only wants to play on-ball. He can't be a closer because he can't shoot. Tatum is going to get pushed off ball more often. I don't want this.

I want Tatum. Tatum > Giannis. I want the offense to revolve around Tatum. He plays a team game. Giannis doesn't. He can't.

I think it's time to change how this offensive philosophy operates. Keeping Brown means bombs-away 3 and become over reliant on it. With Giannis, they can start feeding him the ball inside. We need more offense at the rim and inside the 3 point arc.

Maybe also something similar to the Orlando Magic 2008-2010...surround the big with four shooters.

Agreed. Also, Giannis' calf to me feels like another ticking time bomb.

I trust that there are kernels of truth in these reports.  It is not surprising to me that the following are largely true.

   1.  Giannis has a willingness if not a preference to come to BOS.
   2.  This is known to BOS so they made an offer to MIL.
   3.  An offer from BOS would include Brown, as I don't think BOS can afford all 3 max contracts.
   4.  MIL does not want Brown so they are looking for a 3rd team.
   5.  The 3rd team that would take Brown could be ATL, POR, HOU, even NOP.

This could all take some time.  Another option for MIL is that if they like the BOS deal, they could take Brown and start the season with Brown and look to get a better deal at the deadline. This would be risky, but is an option.

I feel the exact same about Brown. Tired of him in Boston. If not Giannis, I hope they move Brown. Nothing will change with him back next season other than him thinking he is the guy and more poor playoff performances and stupid live streams.

I also want no part of having to extend him this summer and paying him $70 mill in the next few seasons.

As to the MIA offer, as reported:

Herro, Ware, Jaquez, 2026 1st, 2 future firsts

First, this doesn't even work in terms of salary matching.  MIA has to include $3.7M more and then it is a 4 for 1 trade.  MIA has to fill up their roster after.  I see Ware as a decent prospect.  Herro I see being flipped so it is a projection of what you can get for him in terms of young players and picks, which may not be much ($33M is a big contract to trade).  The picks are good not great, probably get you middle class players like Ware.  The fit for Giannis with what is left in MIA is poor.

Compare this to say Brown, or what MIL could get for Brown in a 3-way or a separate trade.  POR makes the most sense as the 3rd team but ATL could offer a decent package also.  If BOS has in fact made an offer to MIL, it is probably a deal favorable to BOS, but less than what MIL would ultimately take.
