Celtics reportedly talked to Hawks about potential Jaylen Brown trade last offseason
One of the top Celtics insiders is expecting a wave of Jaylen Brown trade rumors this summer, with one particular suitor in
Celtics insider Chris Mannix is expecting a "fresh batch" of Jaylen Brown trade rumors this coming off-season. He's also got a report of his own that could be a harbinger of summer fireworks.

Mannix recently wrote about Brown for SI, and reported that the Celtics briefly spoke to the Atlanta Hawks about a potential Brown trade. Brown grew up in Marietta, Georgia, about 20 miles north of Atlanta. Despite the Hawks boasting a solid roster of productive young players with upside, Brown would likely take over as their clear best player and No. 1 scoring option in a deal that sends him to his home state.

Despite those prior talks, Mannix made it clear that they were "very brief" and that the Bucks' Giannis Antetokounmpo remains the most coveted off-season trade target across the league. He describes Brown's market as one that would be comprised of teams that missed out on acquiring Antetokounmpo and still want to add a star player.

I would feel good if Jaylen eventually ended up in Atlanta. Even though I'm sure it would just be the best deal, I'd feel like we were doing right for him. I doubt we would be getting Jalen Johnson, though, so I assume it would be a 3-team deal.

I wouldn't feel good if he ended up in Utah. Which, tbh, isn't an impossibility with the Danny connection and their recent acquisition of JJJ - meaning they are likely looking to compete. That #2 pick does look good, though

Brown to ATL is an obvious option.  You don't need to be an NBA insider to be able to see that.  But I see the 3-way with MIL as a more likely option.  The earlier report was that MIL asked CLE for Mobley (and probably Merrill) plus 3 future first and swaps.  You would think the ask from ATL would start with Jalen Johnson, then add players to match salary, then add 3 firsts and swaps.  At that point, I think ATL probably says no.  BOS would send Brown to ATL of course, and could provide a pick to MIL, but then that starts to get too rich for BOS.  MIL will need to lower their asking price if anything is going to happen in terms of this type of 3-way.

As to a direct trade between BOS and ATL, if they aren't willing to give up Jalen Johnson, then it has to be something like Kuminga, Okongwu, and Risacher.  To me, that is not enough coming back.

As I've said in other threads and now we know the actual pick, I'd still do Okongwu, NAW, Risacher, and 8 for Brown and maybe 27 or 40.  2 decent starters, a flyer in Risacher, and a top 8 pick in a deep draft.  More balanced roster and 2 shots a real difference maker long term.

I'm a fan of NAW and think he has even more untapped potential.

I would think all three teams would like their team after the trade. As a Celtic fan, I'd be thrilled.

Not just for Giannis. For Giannis and a guard that averaged 21ppg and 4apg since January. A guy that continues to get better and plays good defense.

I had the exact opposite reaction; that's like 3 quarters for a dollar. Not NEARLY good enough. Kuminga is a fine bench piece and Risacher I worry is heading that direction too. Those guys are bigger names than they are basketball players. The #8 pick is fine, its a good draft, but if you draft a non-top three guy you are likely waiting 3-4 years for him to develop and the C's aren't doing that. NAW is good, but you do worry about how much last year was an aberration.

I'm not trading Brown unless its for a blue chip young guy, or a true MVO level guy coming back.

Yeah, I think slam might be misunderstanding or just not interested in Giannis at all. If the original deal is Jaylen and picks, but if we give up Hauser, then we can acquire NAW, too - that's a no brainer. It's definitely not happening as NAW has much greater value than Hauser, but I think we should all be thrilled if the deal expanded that way and we got Giannis and NAW

The trade I was commenting on was the spare parts and #8 go to MIL and BOS gets Giannis and MAW.  ATL would get Brown in the proposed deal.  I am saying that it is a lot for ATL to give up to get Brown and that I doubt they would do that.  But if they would, I would be happy for BOS to get Giannis and MAW as part of the deal.

I will say that the value of "spare parts" has changed with the new aprons and other penalties.  I would not trade Brown for those particular spare parts, but decent players on good contracts now have more value than a few years ago.
