Giannis and Jokic only have one title.

This got me curious. Who is winning the titles? I'll use the end of the Durant Warriors as the start of the timeline.

LeBron in LAL = 1 title
Jokic in DEN = 1 title
Giannis in MIL = 1 title
Steph in GSW = 1 title
Tatum & Jaylen = 1 title
SGA in OKC = 1 title

Nobody has won more than 1 title in the last 6 years. 6 different winners in 6 years. Althought maybe SGA will change that this season and Wemby probably will in the future.

If you are putting together a big three than you need to pull that trigger ASAP to try and land title chasers. If it's JB for Giannis I wouldn't.

I just don't know yet.

I do think JB is the likely person to be traded to fill needs if Brad goes that way but what else is out there?

Giannis would be interesting to pair with Tatum. But that still leave a lot of needs on this team. Still need improved guard play. Still need D White to take on even more of a role. Would PP finally start?

You still need to address the center position. It would allow JT to play more 3.

Bench would need to really see Hugo, Baylor step up. Queta needs to be your center off the bench. Does Hauser get moved in the deal also? Do the Bucks send anything back with Giannis (Portis maybe)?

Getting Giannis would be a lot like getting KG. Little younger but the window isn't as open. But any title in the NBA is great.

Do you think White, other players and picks for Giannis is a possibility?

This is really the way to go...White, Hauser, Hugo/Baylor and picks. Not sure the Bucks go for that.

I am onboard. Clearly this is not working. 4 of the last 5 years have ended in disappointment and bad performances in big games. The 2024 title makes it no different , we had about as easy a run as possible. We need a shake up. Bringing in Giannis would be like getting KG in 07. We need something to that level. I do worry about his longevity though, similar to getting 32 year old KG who injured his knee after one year. But if we could guarantee a title next year I think it could be worth it.

Jaylen and Tatum could have another 6-8 year run at playing for a Championship. They can still win multiple Championships together before they are done.

1 title with Giannis wouldn't be enough for me.

I get that. And maybe I just constantly live in the what if of thinking of how many we should have won since 08.

But the way this team plays I find it hard to believe they will win another as constructed. The shooting a million threes philosophy simply does not work in the playoffs when the variance cant favor you.

Same story every year with the Jays since 2022 besides our one year when everything went right and we got lucky with our path.

Not when they can see Brown in the background

Also, that wouldn't do it...we would need to come up with another $10-$14m.That's why in the other thread Phantom was asking if we could sign and trade Vuc to make up the salary shortfall, which would hardcap Milwaukee at the first apron, which they may or may not be ok with.

And to be honest, that would kill our flexibility, with 3 guys taking up $173m of the cap. Shades of the Sixers and they don't even have Maxey on a supermax...or Phoenix with Book, KD and Beal last season, where each was getting paid $50m for a total of $150m, with a $140m cap and a $178m first apron and $188m second apron.

If we did that we would have $36m for the entire rest of the roster before we hit the first apron and $49m before we hit the 2nd apron. And we would have $28m in committed salary for the non-Big Three excluding White, Hauser, Baylor and picks. So we would have $8m to spend on 3 players to avoid first apron penalties, or $19m to avoid second apron penalties.

Unfortunately the CBA is designed to prevent building the Big Three type of roster, by making it impossible to fill the rest of it out. And if it doesn't work out for whatever reason (injury, lack of chemistry, whatever it is), your only tradable contract to make tweaks, without blowing your Big Three up, is Pritchard at $7m and aggregating your vet mins.

I think it would be a hard sell to Brad to handcuff himself financially in that manner. He's the one who's going to be held accountable if it doesn't work, not us  :police:

I think MIL laughs any offer not including one of Brown or Tatum for Giannis.

I'm not sure if laughs is the right word.

The Celtics trade package without Brown or Tatum is not bad.

But most of the other trade packages out there are probably between a package built around white, and a package built around Brown.

Report today that at the deadline the Cavs and Bucks talked Giannis.  Milwaukee wanted Mobley and every 1st the Cavs could trade. Cleveland said no.  I'm guessing if they flame out against the Pistons that sort of trade may be in the table for them.

I had seen this.  I think to work (match salaries), it would need to be Mobley + Sam Merrill or something like that.  I see Brown > Mobley but MIL still might ask for all BOS's future draft picks also.  MIL at that point did not seem to have committed to trading Giannis, they were probably just kind of testing the waters.  They may well revisit this, if Giannis really is on the market.  CLE would have a lot of salary tied up in Giannis, Mitchell, and Harden but they have a lot tied up in their top 3 now with Mobley.

Mobley is only 24 (25 in June).  He still has some upside. Not a bad piece for a rebuilding team.  Not a bad piece for a win now team either.  I am sure MIL is hoping for something better though.

cavs are two losses away from blowing it up. Mitchell will be gone. Harden also.

They would not have anything to put around Giannis and that is before the cap hell they are in.

I think teams are becoming skeptical that trading a ton of draft picks for a player is worth it.  The last one to do so and win a championship is when the Lakers acquired AD and won in 2020. Adding in Giannis's age and health problems, MIL may not get the offer they are asking. I doubt the Celtics will offer enough, but I'm guessing the price for him is going to be lower than we've seen for other stars recently.
