Bulls waived him, I know he is out for the season, but, can the Celtics pick him up? I actually really like his game even though he seems to be a bit of a knucklehead, just wondering.

I think something is wrong with him mentally tbh, it's not just about the comments he made today, he's been making IG lives and streams online saying a lot of random stuff and at times looking troubled. He's also made a lot of religious comments about stuff in recent days that are out of nowhere and even Bulls/Pistons fans are confused (he used to play for DET). Some were even worried he might do something very extreme (a bad thing). I hope he gets the support he needs.

His injury may have taken its toll on him mentally. Hopefully he gets some help. He?s too young to retire. And to answer the question, he?d be a nice reclamation project specially with our financial situation. He could possibly be a lottery talent for cheap. It will all depend on how he is mentally fit though.

Locker room cancer.  There were some rumors in Detroit before this that he had some issues, and was why they traded him.  To be clear, this is not about his beliefs, which I do not at all agree with, but about his inability to know the proper times and ways of expressing them.  They called him ?The Preacher?, and not in a complimentary way.

Also, that he has no understanding of when it is socially appropriate to express his beliefs, and that they are, according to him, part of a recent conversion, indicates to me someone with an untreated, or at least unsuccessfully treated, mental health condition.

I generally agree with the first paragraph, I'm less sure of the second.  Jaylen Brown converted to Islam and has kept a post up on instagram supporting Kyrie Irving that celebrates anti-Semites.  Is he mentally ill?

Look, I am not trained to diagnose such things and I have never met him.  Switching religious beliefs, fine.  I tried out a new religion every six months from about 18 to 24.  The search for meaning in life and finding where we all fit is important and eternal to humanity.  All that said, the fervency of his new belief, and his inability to understand how his expression of it may be alienating others, definitely seems like an addiction or mania.  Such actions are absolutely a potential sign of a few different conditions, and as someone with a parent who manifested their mental health issues in this manner, I can assure you there is a difference in Jaylen Brown and Jaden Ivey.

Idk but sounds like TreVeyon Henderson of the New England Patriots is backing Jaden Ivey following his controversial remarks with a religious quote posted on X.

Hopefully no locker room issues with the Pats regarding TVH

I doubt his upside is worth the risk. Whose minutes would he take? We already had people complaining that Walsh can?t get on the court. Will this guy be happy sitting on the bench behind White and PP and only getting significant time if either is injured or rested? That along would create a potential fit issue for me.

Free speech and all that but I think there?s a degree of self-importance that makes one?s brain say *I need to share my views on righteousness with the world.*  It?s of some note that both Ivey and TVH allude to mental health challenges and belief that religion is the reason for their current, healthier, mental status.  It helps me understand how important religion is to them and it?s understandable that they would be grateful and want to share their thoughts about it.

Both are young men in positions of some influence (at least more than typical 23-24 year olds) and in their choice to use their *pulpit* to advance a belief that a group of people is unrighteous they leave themselves open to the free speech of others in response. IDK if the Bulls were right to release Ivey but they certainly had a right to do so. I can?t stop a person from believing that the Bible tells them that the LGBTQ community is unrighteous but I do think they should be accountable for making statements (in TVHs case indicating support for Ivey) that can have unintended consequences. Consequences such as the influence those words might have on a teen who is struggling to understand and perhaps accept their identity as gay.  Where some voices advise them to embrace who they are with pride, the voice of Ivey and the support of TVH tell them that who they are is shameful.  I do wonder if that thought crosses the minds of Ivey and TVH as they express beliefs underlying their own religious pride.  One pride being righteous of course and the other not.

Unfortunately he is a victim of abuse, has admitted this publicly, but has not received help.

Until he does things are not likely to improve.

Saw Delonte West is sober again and getting help, hopefully Ivey does too. Until then the fishbowl that is pro sports is likely to do him more harm than good.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
I hope he gets the help he needs before it's too late. It's not even about his disdain for homosexuality (which obviously isn't great), but the fact that he is so recently loudly and heavily invested in extreme Christian positions that you often only see in a town square or a busy street at night over a loudspeaker.

Ivey recently revealed that he was sexually abused as a child and these livestream rants soon followed. Getting waived by your team and having people pile on you probably isn't the best thing for your mental health. Hopefully he has people around him who love him and can help him before something even worse happens.
