Walsh is a good player who looked on the verge of playing himself out of Boston financially earlier this year.
I don't think there is any truth to the rumor that we are benching Walsh to keep his value low for his next contract (it has a lot more to with Tatum eating 30+ minutes every night now), but getting him on a super-bargain extension this summer would be great for the team moving forward. At the very least, I think he has proven he can play valuable minutes in this league.
And it's also likely we sign Harper to a multi-year minimum deal on the last day of the season. We are going to be swimming in young players on great contracts.
Queta is the only one who has proven his worth without a doubt. It'll be interesting to see how much he actually gets paid.
I think it's a matter of Baylor having improved his shot, rebounding and defense to where he's clearly ahead of Walsh and Hugo being a better defender who can cover the guard slot better than Walsh can which is where the roster is thinner. Walsh will in all likelihood be resigned but maybe with an eye to being the player the C's figure to lose in the expansion draft.
figuring the following as definite saves:
JT, JB, White, Q, PP, Baylor, Hugo. that leave one slot for either Hauser, Walsh and the C's 1st rounder this year (and possibly second rounder but there's rumors the C's will either trade it for future seconds or package it with their first to move up in the draft a bit) to fill. of those 3, it's likely Walsh is the first one left off the 'keeper' list. Of course it's possible the C's like Walsh enough to propose a deal with the team that takes Walsh (if he is indeed the one taken) to have that deal send Walsh back in return for a second rounder.
