I'm in on Harper.  He looked like he belonged on an NBA roster.  His defense was what I was worried about but if he guards SF I think he be ok.  I think the C's have to wait the full 14 days to sign someone to stay under the Luxury tax.  Pending who they can sign it may have to be Shulga because the hit for a rookie minimum is much lower then a vet minimum.  At this point it's 100% necessary to stay under the luxury tax.

I also liked Harper's minutes. I feel like his size makes him versatile. He could fill in minutes when needed at the 1 2 or 3.

Yeah. I thought he'd sign with the Hornets already to team up with his brother. But that he hasn't may mean some other teams are looking at him.

He reminds me a bit of Evan Turner at this point in his career. He's a connector player. The ball will move when he is in the game, and I think he can play good defense. He can't be counted on to create his own shot, but we don't need that.

Not sure he wants to be "end of the bench" player though.

Hayden Gray has been a much better ball-handler for the Maine Celtics this year. I know they drafted Shulga, but Gray is the best player on that team when Amari and Harper aren't playing.

I don?t know if you still hold that opinion after seeing Shulga in person tonight.  But regardless, there is a rather arcane luxury tax rule that says that rookie minimum-salaried players count the same as two-year vet minimum players for luxury tax purposes (so teams in the tax don?t go signing G-leaguers at the expense of vets to reduce their tax bill).  What has not been clear to me is if this tax treatment counts for determining whether a team is over the tax, or only kicks in once a team is over the tax.  In other words, would Gray and Shulga count the same as long as Boston is under, but if they go over then Gray counts more?  Or does Gray always count more and the Celtics would thus go into the tax if they signed him?  I think it?s the latter, but we will find out soon enough.

I suppose the other ball-handler option would be bringing over Yam Madar.  Not what I expect to happen, but technically possible.

If we are trying to save on tax, that 'ballhandler' doesn't need to be signed with one of these early roster additions. It could be the 15th roster spot on the last day of the season

I'm expecting the ball handler they will sign to be an end of bench guy for depth and insurance. I don't think D'lo fits that bill. He may end up being more disruptive than beneficial. Plus the vet min for a 10 year player like him is around $3.6m, even if it is prorated he would probably be enough to push us over the luxury tax again. Plus he would probably be looking for a bigger role with whoever he signs with.

It's not exciting if we want someone new and different, but I have a sneaking suspicion that the additional ballhandler might come from within the team - I'm guessing it will be Max Shulga. He's been training with the team and has been with the team already. I know - BORING
