Still don't think this team has the bench to be considered a real threat even if Tatum comes back. Going to waste the open roster spots on Harper and Shugla and those 2 guys will never do anything to win playoff games.

Bench is a real mess right now.

Playoffs are usually a 8-9 man rotation.

Starters

1 White
2 JB
3 Hauser
4 JT
5 Queta

6 PP
7 Vooch
8 Baylor
9 Hugo/Walsh

How many teams are bringing players better than PP and Vooch off the bench?

Queta starting over Vuc? I understand the concept but I am not sure they do that.

Did I miss something or do we still have Garza?  He will be more in the playoff rotation than Scheierman or Walsh or Hugo.  I am not sure yet who should start/close games, but I do expect to see a lot more of 2-big line ups, meaning Tatum playing as a wing with 2 of Queta, Garza, and Vucevic on the floor.  Need to see some of these combinations actually playing together, new players can look a lot different in your uniform than you think.  I am OK with going with bigger line ups.

So we have 2 roster spots open after Amari was converted into a regular contract. We can sign 2 vets or maybe convert Harper to a regular contract and sign a vet minimum guy from the buyout market? Possibilities include Conley, Ball, Cam Thomas?maybe Middleton? This is something to watch out for in the coming days. Who knows what Brad has in mind, maybe sign IT to a 10 day  and see what he has left?

I just think Minott fell out of favor with Mazulla. I don't think there was any conspiracy to make trading him away look better.

Getting under the salary cap was a jigsaw puzzle that Brad Stevens solved.

The first big deadline move was getting a useable Big for Simons in Vucevic while still saving money.

Then away went Boucher, Minott, and Tillman.

We converted Amari Williams 2-way to a normal contract to take up a roster spot.

I think we still need to fill one more spot by league rule. But we should be able to either get a minimum salary somehow or a vet buyout to do so within the next 14 days.

It's a bit of a concern that we lost depth on the bench but these players were not seeing a lot of game time outside of Simons.

Vucevic should take the bulk of Simons minutes and give us badly needed additional rotation minutes at the 5.

Maybe we will see Hugo get an uptick in minutes at wing to fill the void left by Simons departure. We'll just have to see how it shakes out.

I am really curious what Brad does next season.

I honestly have no clue which direction he would take in building the roster.

perhaps not. but i think the bench below is pretty good.

- Vuc
- hauser or pritchard
- three headed monster of walsh/gonzalez/scheierman
- garza

and who knows, maybe the team adds a buy out veteran as well.

I think we?re re right up there with the top East teams. If ever we come out of the conference then who knows. OKC, San Antonio, and Denver will be quite challenging to beat four times though.

Yeah this feels like a great job by Brad as well as Joe for the over performance of the team this year and players too of course.

I do wonder if the way they handled this deadline makes it less likely Tatum comes back. The Simons move made me lean towards Tatum coming back however the getting rid of Minott and Tillman makes me a bit more hesitant now. It seems unlikely they will be in the buy out market which makes me feel they do not see this year as a true contender.

In the end it likely means nothing and that is just me hedging my emotions to avoid disappointment.

I don't think the end of the bench moves have any impact on Tatum or the ceiling for this season. Amari is an upgrade over Tillman, I suspect Harper will be signed to a full contract and may prove to be an upgrade over Minott, Boucher was not in the rotation all season and if Tonje replaces his roster spot it will be to no +/- effect.

Yeah.  It doesn't really say anything one way or the other regarding JT's return.  The team had the opportunity to duck the tax and they took it without diminishing our opportunity to win.  The only consequence is we won't be players in the veteran buyout market.

I saw something online that said we could offer $ 4million to a buy out and still be ok.  Not sure if this is true but the vet minimum for a 10 year player is  $3.6 million.  So in theory, we could out bid team and still stay under the limit for the luxury tax/repeater tax.  I am not sure if this is true but this is what the person was saying.  I think it might have been Forsberg.

Several buyouts I would be interested in Pat Connaughton, Kyle Anderson, and Cam Thomas.

They may just promote Harper, too.  I would prefer him over Shulga.  I think his Maine stats reinforce this as well.

Brad's been great, as always.  And this team is a very likeable team and is a True Contender.  With or without Tatum.

That's no true.  If we want to stay below the tax, we have less than $1 million to spend on two players combined.

I just checked Sportrac and I agree with you Roy.  Our limit appears to be $842,292.   The person on TV was looking at the first Apron clearly $8,892,292, which does nothing for the repeater tax, correct?
