Lonzo to buyout market.

Should Brad be in on this? Ball has been awful this season but you never know with Joe. Can he turn Lonzo into a productive player?

Here we are at the final stretch of the deadline and Giannis is still in Milwaukee. I dread waking up tomorrow or looking at the blog mid-day and seeing Giannis to NY or Miami.  Cleveland wouldn?t thrill me either. If it happens, I?m hoping Minnesota.

At some point you have to blame the performance on the court on the players on the court. Every loss is not the coach's fault and every win isn't because of the players.

I can see Brad landing Lonzo ?..he is a defender role player point guard that might come in handy

Quite the haul for Porzingis. Feels a lot better than Georges Niang -- but I know our priorities were different!  :-X :-X :o

That is a sad one -- that Tyus Jones did not work out with the Magic. I hope we see more Jase Richardson at PG for the remainder of the season.

GSW also trade Trayce Jackson Davis in a deal to the Toronto Raptors for a 2nd round pick.

Man, I would have liked to have gotten in on that. Good young bench big man. Mobile. Quick. Rim runner. TJD would have been an upgrade on Tillman.

-----------

Poeltl and Mamu are ahead of TJD in the depth chart so TJD will likely be a 3rd stringer once again in Toronto. Along with Mogbo. Colin Murray Boyles is their backup PF and plays some C (or at PF alongside S Barnes at C) when Poeltl is unavailable. Not much playing time available there for TJD.

So the new look lineups for ATL and GSW are

Atlanta Hawks

G: NAW, CJ McCollum
G: Dyson Daniels, Buddy Hield
F: Z Risacher, Kuminga, L Kennard
F: Jalen Johnson, Mo Gueye
C: Okongwu, Asa Newell, Jock Londale

That is a lot of depth PG-SF. McCollum, Buddy Hield, Kuminga, Luke Kennard off the bench. Not much defense there. Hield and Kennard are both SFs at this juncture in their careers due to their lack of defensive footspeed. Risacher will probably defend SGs for Atlanta when they are on the floor. The depth at center is a bit dodgy but I like Asa Newell. I think he can step up and be a good rotation player - next year if not this year.

Golden State Warriors

G: Steph Curry, Gary Payton II, Pat Spencer
G: Podz, D Melton, Will Richard
F: Moses Moody, Gui Santos
F: Draymond, Horford
C: Porzingis, Quinten Post

Interesting roster. 6 guards (combo guards). 4 bigs. 2 wings / SFs.

Porzingis has only played 17 out of 52 games this season. He is playing only 24.3mpg when he plays. If he could stay fit and give them 28-32mpg, that could be a fun team to watch. If he cannot do that, which he likely cannot, then they just got worse.

They needed Kuminga as a 2nd shot creator with Jimmy out. Hield was great for them before Jimmy joined as well as a shot-maker on the perimeter. So lost 2 offensive talents when they are already struggling for offense without Jimmy.

And with Trayce Jackson Davis being dumped (for a 2nd round pick), they now lack the big man depth to provide cover for Porzingis when he is not available. Bad deal.

All dependent on Porzingis' health - not a good place to be.

The New York Knicks are trading Guerschon Yabusele to the Chicago Bulls for Dalen Terry, sources tell ESPN.

Given the Bulls lack of centers, they will likely be forced to play Yabu at center where he is a disaster. At PF they already have Mataz Buzelis and Pat Williams. Then Yabu. Then new recruit Ousmane Dieng.

How many teams have traded for him with this exact same thought? It never works. He will get / always is hurt.

I agree about Giannis, but I don't think Ja gets dealt either, although he probably should.  He needs to go to a team where there is a strong vet above him.

Lonzo Ball to Utah

The Cleveland Cavaliers have agreed to trade Lonzo Ball and two second-round picks to the Utah Jazz, sources tell ESPN. Ball's agent Rich Paul and the Jazz are expected to discuss his future soon.

Ha!  Cleveland chose Lonzo Ball at 2 years / $20MM over keeping Ty Jerome (yes, I know he's been injured but he was healthy when all this happened) at 3 years / $28MM.

Jerome gave them more drives to the basket, floaters, and three-point shooting that they never got in Ball and others.

I really think he was part of the secret sauce to their success last year (despite the collapse against the Pacers last year, who actually beat everyone on their way to the finals).

And now Lonzo is gone too.

I love the Schroder pickup for Cleveland. Schroder will give them that dribble penetration & scoring threat that Ty Jerome gave them last year. A better version of Ty Jerome IMO. Lethal speed. Harder to slow down unlike Ty Jerome who came up short in the playoffs.

Despite the mistakes along the way, I think this one has worked out well for Cleveland. They ended up with the best player - Schroder.
