Perhaps it's somewhere in this thread and I missed it, but what's the motivation for each side in the AD trade?

Being traded to the Wizards, where careers end up dying or in the garbage.

But Dallas is how you go from a championship team to a dumpster fire in one year
such is the trauma inflicted upon that franchise by the Celtics dominating them in 2024   8)

Washington has not been the same since the 2017 East semis.

So basically its Kelly Olynyk's fault.

Pretty much.  I am not sure if people understand how historically bad the Wizards have been.  They have not made the conference finals or won 50 games since the 70s.  Winning 49 games and losing in 7 games in the 2nd round ripped apart that organization.  It was their 3rd second round appearance in four years and they finally thought they were going to get over the hump, but no.

We are in a transition season with our best player out and shedding all kinds of payroll and are still on pace to have a better season than any the Wizards have had since 1979.

See my post above about the Wizards.  Being a mid-40s win team in the second round would be big for them.  They had a lot of picks and didn?t trade any of the good ones, so it is just money they would have spent on overpriced free agents.  I don?t know that this plus Trae gets them there, but they are desperate, and their goal is not a championship.

The Mavs got a few picks and cleared a lot salary this year (they are now out of the tax) and next year (net $67 million less which can give them actual cap space).
