i looked over the players that will likely be available when (if??) the celtics choose. it is an interesting mix of credible players who have various skills to offer. quite a few pg  and pf/c types are available who seem to be capable of becoming rotation level players...including a pair of smurfs! :)

here are the pg/sg types in and around the range of the celtics picks.

also, a few pf/c types are there who seem to at least be better than garza.

so, there will be some talent available.

Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.

I used to put this out when the team had a plethora of picks to track but went on a hiatus the last 2 years.  Since we have a few this year, thought I?d put this out there again for this season.

Standings as of 1/29/26

Boston Pick #24 (tied with NY - percentage pts ahead of Houston)
Games Behind    Current Wins     Games Left    Last 10
Cleveland               1.0                     29                   33                8-2
Toronto                 1.0                      29                   33                6-4
Phoenix                 1.0                      28                   35                6-4
Minnesota              0.5                      29                   34                4-6
LA Lakers              0.5                      28                    36                5-5
Boston                 ---                      29                    35                6-4
NY                       ---                        29                   35                5-5
Houston                ---                       28                   37                6-4

--> C's are in a growing clump with several other teams with their inconsistent play letting other teams get close in the standings.  This would bode well for the pick (moreso than for playoff seeding).  Still too early to see which way this will go but the teams they're clumped with do figure to get back injured players and now with Tatum throwing cold water on his return the C's could drop in the standings a bit and improve their pick.

The second rounders are looking good in terms of where they're positioned - right now.  The NO pick could get a lot worse shortly with Zion back (for now) and them tied with 3 other teams for 12 wins.  The Milwaukee pick could improve a slot or 2 depending on what happens with Giannis.

Second Round Pick
NO - #32   (most favorable of Minn, NO, NY or Portland)
Mil - #38  (most favorable of Orl, Det or Mil)

Standings as of 2/6/26

Boston Pick #26 (tied with NY)
Games Behind    Current Wins     Games Left    Last 10
Minnesota              1.5                      32                   30                5-5
LA Lakers              1.5                      31                    32                7-3
Houston                1.5                       31                   32                6-4
Denver                  0.5                      33                   30                4-6
Boston                 ---                      33                    31                7-3
NY                        ---                        33                   31                8-2

--> C's are swinging between 24 and 26 lately with none of the other teams around them in the standings making any groundbreaking moves to improve or tank.

One second rounder is gone (NO pick) but at the moment (pending full clarification of the barrage of trade details) we still have the most favorable of Orl, Det and Mil which will likely be Mil.  The Mil pick won't bottom out as much as hoped since they hung on to Giannis.

Second Round Pick
Mil - #38  (most favorable of Orl, Det or Mil)

I think it is realistic that we can bring back 11 of our players, many of them core players.

Tatum
Brown
Pritchard
Hauser
White
Schiermann
Neemi
Walsh
Hugo
Amari
Garza

Hopefully, we can resign Vuc, if he works out, for a discount.

If that is the case, I think we should draft BPA aka Best player available rather than target positions.

One guy like in our range is Koa Peat.  He is PF who is very explosive but his perimeter game in questionable.  He has a great motor.  6-8 235 lbs so ready to bang from the get go.

I'd think that they have a plan to resign Vuc at a lower amount for a couple of years.  The question is the impact on Garza and development of Williams.  I think if Vuc is resigned, it buys Williams at least another year to develop in Maine without pressure.

for the draft, I'm always in camp BPA -- especially when drafting late in the first.  there's no sure things at that point but with Walsh coming around this season and Baylor showing signs of improvement I'm starting to come around on Brad's drafting ability.  I don't think he's at Danny's level yet but he seems to be hitting on some decent players without the benefit of a high pick.

Playing against better guys in practive is one of the better ways to improve, I think.   So while it may mean less playing time.  Look at all those years of playing against Al and Luke and how it helped Neemi.
