Trae Young has the Washington Wizards as his top preferred trade destination, sources tell ESPN. Atlanta is working to move Young, who has a $49 million player option in offseason that would make him an expiring contract; or opt out, leave and give Hawks significant cap space.

Might be one of the only NBA guys out there who has Washington as a "top destination"

The Sacramento Kings have no interest in trading for Atlanta Hawks guard Trae Young despite long-standing rumors connecting the two franchises, a team source told The Athletic.

Sacramento has maintained this stance for an extended period and remains unchanged in its position. Scott Perry replaced Monte McNair as lead decision maker for the Kings last offseason.

The Kings have previously been rumored as a possible destination for Young, with speculation that Atlanta could acquire former All-Star Zach LaVine in a potential deal. LaVine was believed to be of interest to the Hawks in trade scenarios.

Sacramento's lack of interest represents a significant blow to Young's trade market despite the Kings' need for offensive production. The decision suggests Young's value around the league has diminished considerably from his All-Star peak.

Argh. There goes my trade idea for Trae Young.

Marc Stein reported Monday that the Washington Wizards are considered a possible suitor for Young. Wizards guard CJ McCollum, earning $30.6 million on an expiring contract, is believed to be the most likely player headed to Atlanta in any potential deal.

I am surprised by Washington. I thought they were committed to a full blown rebuilding process. Multiple years getting top 5 picks and then seeing where they are. Trading for Trae will disrupt that.

I am not sure they have the young talent already in place to make it worthwhile going after Trae. Alex Sarr is showing some promise. Kyshawn George looks good. Not sure any of the other youth shows any star potential yet. And neither Sarr or Kyshawn are sure-things as stars. They are still in a relatively early stage of their development. You would like to have more talent in place before fast-tracking the rebuilding process by getting Trae.

I had the same thought but this also brings up the question whether or not Young actually helps them win more games?

I think for the owners, the question is ?Will Trae Young help to sell more tickets? I believe that he will.

I?d rather live in DC than Atlanta, Memphis, or New Orleans. Wizards have some promising young players as well with Sarr, Coulibaly, Carrington, George, and Johnson. Trae could be a really good fit with that group.

My guess is that they're his top destination because they're interested in extending his contract.  I think that his preference is purely driven by finances.

As an aside, I think a lot of players would disagree with preferring Washington over Atlanta as a city.  Isn't it considered one of the best cities to live in in the country?

Basically a salary dump. Crazy how far his value dipped.

Yeah I'm surprised it materialized this fast.

Funny enough, probably the only player in NBA history who wanted to be a Wizard

If no picks are involved though, that's a big get for Washington. They have some pieces to continue building with and Trae gives them some recognition and starpower they sorely lack

So the Hawks are gonna try to go for AD? KP must be next to be traded, if there are takers. He has an expiring contract right?

Simons + Hauser would have been more value than that, not that I wanted him.

I really don't understand trade values in the NBA.

No draft picks involved is insane.

Fun player, but Trae is such a liability defensively. I?m not surprised that Atlanta had very few options.

Man, offense-only guards really have no trade value in the league right now.

I think it's a bit of an over-correction in this case tbh.  A healthy Trae Young is a #1 option, proven capable of spearheading a top 5 offense in the NBA.  He's less useful when he can't dominate the ball, and with the ascension of Jalen Johnson I do understand why Atlanta felt like they could trade him, but as a salary dump?  I thought he'd have SOME positive value.

Good deal by the Wizards tbh.  I haven't said those words very often.  Low risk, high reward.  Fills an immediate need and appears to fit well with Sarr.

About time the NBA recognizes that defence is absolutely critical to be competetive
