Netflix won the bidding war and will pay just under 73 billion to expand massively into TV and movie theaters.  Allegedly they will keep current leadership intact including Gunn leading DC, but who knows if that will change long term. Also, unclear if HBO Max will eventually be phased out (like Disney did with Hulu) or if they will keep it separate from Netflix. In the short term no real changes though some more stuff may end up in Netflix for streaming.

If this deal goes through, my guess is it will not be until early 2027 after regulatory approvals.

I was hoping Comcast or even SkyDance/Paramount would win. Not sure if Netflix is ready for theater economics or the prestige of HBO. I hope so, though.

I wonder how long Netflix can double-dip in terms of subscriptions.

I do hope this means more movies on Netflix.

It would be smart to merge Netflix with HBO. You'll have all the DC movies,Game of Thrones, the Harry Potter movies, and the Harry Potter Show next year, it would boom their viewer base for the next 7 years.

Netflix has gone so far downhill... Majority of their shows are garbage. Really hope they leave HBO alone for the most part. They have released so many gems over the years and continue to do so. No one comes close to HBO.

Paramount has launched a hostile takeover bid seeking all Warner Brothers properties (including its cable television channels, which Netflix wasn't purchasing).

The Paramount bid includes presidential son-in-law Jared Kushner, so that could grease the regulatory skids, at least in America.

With Trump so blatantly using government officials for his bidding, this Netflix deal is far from over if FCC and all these other agencies decide to go against it. Maybe Netflix should create a face Oscar Award and give it to Trump for his appeasement.

HBO has done a fine job of ruining HBO IMO. I haven?t really enjoyed anything they?ve put out in years.

I think HBO still puts out some quality programming.  In the last few years I've enjoyed several shows, including Mare of Easttown, Succession, Task, The Last of Us, Welcome to Derry, White Lotus, House of the Dragon, Euphoria, Perry Mason, Peacemaker, The Penguin and The Chair Company.  That doesn't mean they all get an A+, but they are generally entertaining.

For what it is worth, the FCC would not look at the Netflix deal, only the DOJ would, and state attorneys general will certainly sue if DOJ does not.
