Miami Heat guard Terry Rozier and Portland Trail Blazers coach Chauncey Billups will not be paid while on leave of absences from their teams, sources tell ESPN. Both of their paychecks are expected to be withheld and placed in escrow, pending outcome of FBI cases.

Barry Jackson: Heat will need to patiently wait for what could be 'special' cap relief. This suggests NBA might be inclined to allow this case to go to trial instead of voiding Rozier contract and removing salary from Heat books. But league hasn't clarified that. All parties declining comment.

Guardian pitchers Clase and Ortiz got indicted for throwing 2 intentional balls in 2 separate games.  Apparently Clase facilitated it and Ortiz threw the 2 pitches.  That is why they were suspended in the middle of the season, but federal files charges filed now. 12k each to go to potentially jail and ruin their multi million dollar careers

Wow.  I wonder how much the bettors made on that $24k investment.

I wouldn't jeopardize my career for $12k, and that money would be a lot more meaningful.

You?d almost wonder if there?s more to it, maybe they?re in debt or someone?s got something on them because the pay off compared to what they?re risking is just way too high, gamblers are gamblers but even the dumbest gambler knows what he?s risking versus what he?s winning.

Heat don't deserve a break on this.  C's didn't get one when Reggie passed.  Heat can suck it.

sounds like Clase is much more involved than that 12k.  Apparently been doing it for years and having people bet for him. He brought Ortiz in this season.

That would be a big mistake by the NBA to grant cap relief.  NBA teams are the owners of the information bettors desire most, and they need to be incentivized to further prevent these instances.  If you can get cap relief when a player gets caught with gamblers, that will only disincentivize teams from putting in more controls of their own, which will lead to more scandals.

Agreed.  I don't see why the Heat should deserve any sort of cap relief in this instance.  If a team can't get cap relief for a player dying, why the heck should a team get cap relief when their player is caught in a gambling scheme?

I also feel like if they can't terminate the contract and not pay him anything for that conduct, then what are they doing.

they should at least be able to terminate the agreement but it shouldn't free up a roster spot or that salary against the cap.  Won't happen that way IMO but that's the most consideration I think the Heat should get.  That whole fiasco with Reggie's passing and the league screwing the C's is still a bitter taste in my mouth.
