I'd like to see GSW make 2 changes
(1) Drop Buddy Hield from the rotation. They needed his scoring last year but they do not need it with Kuminga now as the 3rd option. They have Podz as a 4th option. The Warriors are better with a two way wing like Moody. They have always functioned well with defensive orientated guards like Melton or G Payton II next to Steph. They give that perimeter D a shot in the arm. Buddy is the opposite. He harms the perimeter D. Will Richard has been nice for them too. Buddy is expendable.
(2) Drop Kuminga to the bench. I do not understand him starting. He should be the 6th man for the team. Let the starting unit revolve around Steph's 3s & Jimmy's isos. Kuminga as a slasher is not a great fit next to them. Not offensively. Nor defensively or rebounding wise. He makes them too small as a defensive unit & rebounding unit. Bring him off the bench as a guy who can change the pace of the game with his athleticism and his scoring.
(3) Q Post or Horford should start instead. They should also consider giving TJD more minutes as a rim running center. Not as a starter but as a bench big. I like having a center who can shoot the 3 next to Draymond & Jimmy. That is why Q Post or Horford should start. Probably Horford because Q Post showed he could not matchup to anyone of note at the center position in the playoffs last year. More of a 3rd stringer really. But he does have a skill-set (stretch 5) that helps balance the team which gives him a larger role than he would have elsewhere. Horford does not have to play big minutes. Keep him at 20mpg. Just use him in the starting group and perhaps the finishing group depending on how he is playing. A part time starter.
Post has started 7 games this year including 4 of the last 5.
The problem with GS is they are old and not a great fit especially between Curry and Butler. Butler just plays a different style of ball than Curry and it will be hard for them to truly work. It is a large reason why I was never sold on them as a threat and figured they'd be more likely to miss the playoffs entirely then to even win a playoff series. They've also slowly lost talent from their bench and what they do have is different than the starters. Take a guy like Poole. Not a good starter but in GS he could at least take on the role of Curry when Steph sat, so the team didn't have to change much. There is no Curry (or even Butler) type player on their bench so the system that "works" with the starters doesn't work when they aren't in.
For as poor a fit I think Brown and Tatum are as starters with each other because they are too similar, Boston can run the same system with just 1 on the floor because of the similarities. GS just doesn't have that and they've greatly diminished Curry's effectiveness and Curry is what made them great. Just poor roster construction all the way around.
Yes, but I think he has started partly due to injuries. I am not sure he will keep the job moving forward.
I am not sure what their first choice team is now. They seem to have 2 configurations. So Steph, Jimmy, Draymond, Kuminga are constants. (1) One lineup with Podz. The small ball unit with Draymond at center and Kuminga at PF. (2) The 2nd lineup is Q Post at center, Draymond at PF, two big wings in Kuminga and Jimmy alongside Steph at PG. Big ball.
I am not sure which lineup they will use moving forward as guys get healthy again. Steph missing 3 games recently. Jimmy missed a game. Draymond missed a game. Their lineup isn't settled.
Anyway, I don't like either of those 2 lineups. I'd like to remove Kuminga from both lineups. I love what Podz brings the team at SG. He needs to play over Kuminga. Podz is a better team player. He facilitates so much. He creates chemistry. Kuminga is the opposite. He is a solo-ist with limited team skills. He saps away at team chemistry. And as I said, Q Post at center as a stretch 5 alongside Draymond.
The big ball lineup I do not like. Jimmy and Kuminga do not provide enough outside shooting on the wings. Then you have Draymon at PF. Podz needs to go back into the starting unit.
