Tari Eason and the Houston Rockets were unable to agree to terms on a contract extension before Monday's deadline, but there was mutual interest and may have come down to how much of the contract was guaranteed for injury. Eason played in 82 games as a rookie, but just 22 in 2023-24 and 57 in 2024-25.

"From what I understand, they made Eason a strong offer," said Brian Windhorst. "It was in excess of $100 million, but I don't know how much of it would have been guaranteed."

Last season, Eason averaged 12.0 points, 6.4 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.7 steals in 24.9 minutes.

$100mil for a bench player? 25mpg 12ppg?

Even if there was a lot unguaranteed, it is hard to see him getting anywhere near that money next summer.

Wemby does something outlandish like every other possession.  I hope he stays healthy, because he's 1 of 1.  Never seen anything like him.

Forgot about Wemby and the Spurs...with the right talent and roster assembled (and a little bit of health luck), they might pose a threat to OKC.

Hes disgusting. The pump fake from like 12 feet, rip through into an under basket reverse dunk (would have been a layup for every other player in the league) was one of the filthiest plays I've ever seen.

He definitely has a Wilt-like element to him where he does a lot of things that no one else can physically or athletically come close to doing.  It almost tricks the eye into disbelief because it?s so unusual.

That was a strange Spurs starting lineup. No D Fox. No Dylan Harper. You would think Dylan Harper would get the nod with Fox out.

G: S Castle
G: D Vassell
F: Julian Champagnie
F: H Barnes
C: Wemby

Last year's team. They have Keldon Johnson as a backup forward. New recruits Kornet and Dylan Harper. A solid 8 man rotation.

Box score is weird to look at. Every single Spurs player had a positive plus minus number. Every single Mavs player had a negative plus minus figure.

Cooper Flagg 10pts on 13 FGA. 10reb. 0 assists against 3 turnovers as the starting PG. On the other side, Dylan Harper with 15pts on 7-14 FGA with 4reb 2ast 4 turnovers in 23min off bench.

Wemby 40pts on a ridiculous 15-21 FGA 10-11 FTA. 15reb 3blk. 77.4% TS% ... dang, he did in only 30 minutes playing time!! 40pts and 15rb in 30 minutes work.

Spencer Dinwiddie has agreed to sign with Bayern Munich. Dinwiddie, who is represented by Jason Glushon and Ryan Leff, was recently waived by the Charlotte Hornets before the start of the NBA season.

Last season with the Dallas Mavericks, Dinwiddie averaged 11.0 points, 2.6 rebounds and 4.4 assists in 27.0 minutes.

I don't understand why no NBA team wants this guy. He was good for Dallas last season.

Klay Thompson taking a bunch of bad shots in this Spurs game with no PG out there to create easy looks for him.

It was interesting to see Kidd go to Ryan Nembhard as his backup PG over Brandon Williams. Brandon Williams was fantastic for them last year as a scoring guard. Electric speed. But Kidd clearly favours Nembhard's floor leadership and team orientated approach at PG.

Spurs went to the twin towers late in Q2. They only used it for a little over 2 minutes but generated an 8-0 run with the Kornet & Wemby pairing. They had a 5-0 run after Kornet went to the bench that to help build a 10pt lead. They used both man defense & zone defense coverages while Kornet & Wemby played together.

From the lineup data, it doesn't look like they went back to it in the 2nd half. So just that small experiment.

Cooper Flagg scoreless in first half. Makes his first basket opening of 2nd half. An 18 footer top of the key. Curled around a screen, hand off, shoot.

(1) He was peripheral on offense for the first half. The Dallas vets are good at looking for their own offense. Klay never misses a chance to put a shot. PJ Washington looks for his offense. Neither of those guys pass the ball much. AD was aggressive. AD doesn't pass much either. Naji Marshall didn't shoot a lot but he is aggressive with the ball and looking to drive. These guys are all looking after themselves. Cooper Flagg gives up the ball and it rarely comes back to him. These vets are all about looking for their own offense.

(2) It is also interesting with that double big lineup (Lively / Gafford + AD) and the spacing. Whether Cooper Flagg will have the space to drive effectively or not. Or whether they will clog his driving lanes. That happened to LeBron in 2009-10 when they brought in Shaq next to non-shooters like Anderson Varejao / JJ Hickson. LeBron played great with Shaq when there was a small lineup or a shooter at PF but badly with a non-shooting big next to Shaq.

I liked Dallas' lineup the most when PJ Washington was the PF and Cooper Flagg was at SF. I hope we see more of that. Spacing was much. More angles for him to attack. He didn't attack as much as he should have but the spacing was there.

(3) AD used a lot of isos in the midrange playing the PF position. That limited opportunities for Cooper Flagg as well. The ball movement for the whole team tended to die whenever AD went into iso mode. They shouldn't use that as much and only later in the shot clock. Kills ball movement.

A lot of nise was made about the Mavericks starting Flagg at PG, then he went out there and had 0 assists. Instead of trying to make Flagg something he isn't they should be putting him in a position to thrive. He' a PF who can play some SF, just do that.
