HOU gets: D. White, X. Tillman

BOS gets: R. Sheppard, T. Eason, S. Adams, 2027 PHX 1st

I would be really surprised if Houston doesnt hit the trade market hard in order to try to get a FVV replacement for this season. Durant is 37, so their window is right now - They can?t afford to throw away a year. They still have the assets remaining to take a big swing if they choose to. With OKC and their swarming defense currently reigning supreme in the west, the Rockets will need another capable ball handler who can step up in the playoffs. I really cant think of a better fit for them than D-White.

On the Celtics side of things, this is probably a throw away year. And by the time Tatum comes back, (most likely start of 26 season) White will be 32 and a half, and the team surrounding the Big 3 of Tatum-Brown-White will most likely be lackluster at best - mostly due to the new salary cap restrictions. Would it be best to trade White for younger pieces on cheaper contracts in order to have more depth when Tatum is ready to go?

This post hurts me because Derrick White is one of my favorite Celtics in recently memory, but I am just trying to be pragmatic.

It?s also worth noting that I am very high on Sheppard and Eason, and that 2027 PHX pick is nothing to scoff at.

Other guys I could see Houston making a run at are Tyler Herro, Lamelo Ball, and maybe even Ja Morant - depending on how those guys team perform this season.

not nearly enough for White.  needs another 2 first rounders coming our way.  Not seeing anything out of Sheppard or Eason that makes me think they're going to be more than mid-level talent so far.

having said that, White's someone we need to keep for when Tatum comes back.  too steady and talented to dump for keep-your-fingers-crossed young players

Nope.  If Bane and Bridges are returning five #1s, I'd want something that is the equivalent.

I was think along the same lines.  Bridges is turning out to be an overpay and I predict that the Bane deal will end up the same, but this is still what these guys returned.  White is better then either.

That PHX pick in 2027 might be a good pick but do we really want 3 or 4 HOU picks?  To at best get players like Pritchard or Scheiermann, and at worst get players that never make it?

HOU would have to offer a King's ransom for me to consider trading White.

That Phoenix pick is a likely top 5 pick, no?

That is more valuable than 3 mid to late 1sts.

Thats pretty good.

1) A guy who is only one year removed from being the #3 pick, and just didn't get a chance on a high seeded Rockets team last year.

2) A potential top 5 draft pick.

3) Tari Eason i think could fetch you a late first rounder at the trade deadline.

Not directly related to the package:

4) Trading White makes them worse this year, which helps their draft pick.

ESPN had Mikal Bridges ranked as the #38 player the offseason he was traded, White is ranked 26 this year, so pretty similar. The difference is White is entering his age 31 season, and Bridges was entering his age 28 season. THREE FEWER PRIME YEARS in a big deal and the reason you won't get the same return or WHite as the Nets did or Bridges. This deal is close, maybe one more late first to seal it.

I don't know.  None of those players excite me all that much.  Reed Sheppard was a #3 pick but has he shown anything?  Jaylen Brown was a #3 pick but how likely is it that Sheppard could be that good, like you would expect from a #3 pick?  I would have to be real sure.  Eason and Adams don't excite me at all.

It is all about 2026-27 for me.  I would be OK trading for Sheppard and giving him a season to develop, but I would have to have a very high level of confidence that he was going to be an impact starter by 2026-27 before I would give up White and I do not have that level of confidence.  And a pick in 2027, even a good one, does not excite me all that much.  The player taken in 2027 may not help the team for a couple of season, so 2029.  Not the window I am worried about right now.  That pick could have value in a  trade for a vet to help in the nearer term, but I would rather just keep White.
