Been saying this all along. Maye has all the physical talent, but him having success in the league will come down to his Football IQ and decision making.

On a night where multiple players stood out at Gillette Stadium, Vrabel was left wanting more from his starting QB, Drake Maye, after getting knocked for a fumble on his first drive of the evening.

That?s a bad decision and I think we?re going to need better from him and I think he knows that and I think that?s obvious, Vrabel said postgame. Wasn?t there and we just have to be able to find a way to get rid of the football or take a sack and punt and play defense. But to the defense?s credit, they forced a field goal and I think that was missed. But it was a sudden-change opportunity.

Perhaps Maye now finally gets a real head coach to teach and show him how things are done unlike the previous one

Vrabel won?t be the one teaching Maye. That would be McDaniels. Just like Mayo wasn?t teaching him last year. It was Van Pelt.

At some point you have to blame the performance on the court on the players on the court. Every loss is not the coach's fault and every win isn't because of the players.

Like Sparz and Goldstar88 have said, I at least feel very confident knowing that this regime and coaching staff as a whole probably seems well-equipped to get things on the right track and to try and instill good habits, sometimes through tough love.

That was absolutely not the case last year and even the last two years of Belichick when he also had Patricia-Judge trying to run the offense (lol). Plus Belichick apparently had been involved with his current GF since dating back to 2021, so he was probably checked out anyways (which is ironic for a guy who always preached strict habits and "ignoring the noise", okay Bill...  ::) )

When Brady was still here, he'd hold everyone accountable, even Belichick  ;)

I agree. I really like Vrabel?s approach. He?s an ideal teacher for motivated learners. He?s knowledgeable, experienced, is tough when he needs to be, is flexible when it?s beneficial to be, prioritizes building connections with players and coaches.  I think he?s a person players will want to play for.

It also will help a ton if he has a great quarterback.  That remains to be seen. But it?s possible. I think if this team is at .500 after 8 games I think the culture of winning (or  competitive in every game) will take hold and we?ll be on our way to an era of good football again in New England.

What do people think of the TB12 statue?

After 1 preseason game, still may questions, but some clarity coming to the picture.  My biggest worry remains the OL.  If the OL is not at least average, this team is going nowhere.  The leaders in the clubhouse to start are:

Campbell
Wilson
Bradbury
Onwenu
Moses

Two rookies worry me.  I would be more comfortable if Strange or Sow were playing well enough to take LG.  Both these guys were solid guards prior to injuries, but they don't seem to have bounced back.

The other position group that is very much uncertain is the receivers.  I am starting to think that Bourne will get cut or traded.  Diggs and Douglas are expected to start with either Hollins or Boutte as the 3rd (I expect both will get plenty of snaps in any case).  That probably leaves 2 spots for Polk, Baker, Williams, or maybe Chism.  Bourne may be better than the younger players in the short term, but I would rather keep another young player.

As to the statue, no more deserving player to be honored with a statue, but the statue itself does not speak to me.  But I am the last one to be judging art.
