Hugo is so raw. There is no way he?s playing for the C?s this year. It?s Spain or Maine.

Disagree

How? He doesn?t look good on either end. Looks OK on defense, wouldn?t say good. Terrible offensively. Can?t shoot at all.

You are just wrong here. He's made 2 threes so far. You can't say "Can't shoot at all" when he's made 2 threes.

And his defense on Jaylen Wells has forced 1-6 shooting with 2 TOs. So his defense has been good.

He?s 3-11 from the field.  1-5 from the line. Like I said.

1st game.  Not much practice time.  I guess if you have a bad game in summer league you wont be successful.  I guess that means Cooper Flagg should be traded by the Mavs because he was really bad in his first game.  Same with Ace Bailey.  Utah may want to stash him overseas.

The over reaction t9 a summer league game is laughable.  Summer league is ugly basketball.  A bunch of players basically playing pick up basketball after 3 days of practices.

The good

Baylor can fill up a stat sheet.  He's better as an off ball shooter.  He can do a little bit of everything.  Im excited for Baylor this year.  He crashes the boards.  4 assists.  His shot will fall.  That part doesn't worry me about him.

Walsh looked like the best player on the Cs today.  He played under control for the most part.  He got a little aggressive on D a few times and got beat but so did most of the players on both sides.  His shot looks even more improved.  Good star for Walsh compared to last year.

Hugo is going to be exciting.  His shot looks decent.  His energy, hustle and tenacity are awesome.  He looked better then a late 1st round pick.  Can't want to see what he looks like in March after some run in Maine and practice against JB.  Definitely nerves in this game.  Couldn't hit a FT.

Amari he doesn't look lost like so many posters said he would.  NBA athlete.  I think hes going to be a rotational big for the Cs and in year 2 he will be a Luke Kornet type player.

Max - I was surprised he was running point.  He looked lost and tentative.  He may be a Anton Watson type where he doesn't last a full year with the cs.

Bassey was a surprise addition.  He looked good but should based on his NBA experience.  I like Amari better

Bad

The cs couldn't hit a layup to save their lives.  Should have won this game by 30

Turnovers were bad which they usually are in SL.  With no real playmaker this team will struggle at times

3 years in the European league, career averages: 41% from the field, 27% from 3pt. It?s not just one summer league game. He?s a really poor shooter.

You probabaly could have written up your posts on this game earlier this morning and scheduled them to post during the game. You are looking for confirmation bias to support your negativity, rather than considering the idea that he went 3-5 from three this game.

He passed the eye test and box score test tonight. He looked like a 19 year old at times with the ball, but that was to be expected. He did really, really well.

Just stating facts. Hugo needs to learn how to shoot. Not saying he won?t in time, but he is very much a project player right now. Good news is Hugo plays hard and is young.

Just watched.

Liked Jordan today - hope he can settle down enough to play consistently.  Like Hugo?s energy.  Really liked Amari - moved well, looked like he knew what he was doing out there. Hands looked good.  Solid first game for him.  Baylor will shoot better next game.

Goldstar So much negativity at pitching.  Change the p to a b for me please.  Hugo is the best talent we've had to root for in a long time.  We really know nothing of these players outside of some stats anyone can look up.  Did you see the article how Hugo was a projected top 5 pick going into this year and only dropped because he was a 19yr old on a very good veteran team.  You're coming across like he has no talent. Maybe drink a little coolaid to enjoy this for what it is.  Do we have young players who can develop into good role players or a starter?  That's the goal.  If you get a start that's the bonus.  After one game I saw enough of Hugo and Amari to be a little excited we have a few more players worth developing.

Unlike you I was pretty pleased with Hugo today, granted I only saw the second half, but I do agree he?s just not a very good shooter right now.

I do wonder if he?ll have a role this year. None of him Walsh or Minott are shot makers and it figures the three of them will be fighting for a single role.

My initial sense is that he?s got the best feel for the game of the 3 of them and he?s obviously the youngest. But Walsh is more mature as an offensive player.

I wonder if that maturity translates to NBA minutes given at theNBA level neither will have any plays drawn up for them. The fact that Walsh is more comfortable taking a midrange pull-up is probably moot

Walsh looks the part as an athlete, seems to have good feel for the game offensively, hustles like crazy, and is young. All those things are encouraging but I do wonder about touch. Hopefully he can develop as a scorer but some guys just don?t. Fingers crossed because I think the rest of the foundation looks good

I liked a lot of what I saw from Hugo yesterday, but I think he?s best served by getting minutes in Maine.  He needs to be in an environment next year where he can take a lot of shots and get stronger.  There were several times he was in the right place defensively but just got knocked off his spot too easily, and if that happens in Vegas it will happen even more in the NBA.

But it is easy to see why Brad liked him, and I am looking forward to seeing what he does in 2026-27.

I thought Walsh played the best game.  He sort of disappeared in the second half, but I think that was more due to Baylor forcing up shots and not finding Walsh than Walsh playing poorly.  He just played a controlled game, and his shot looked better.  They gave him lots of time to shoot for a couple of his makes, but he calmly lined them up and they were very pure.

Scheierman was awful.  Like last summer league, and nothing like the player we saw for stretches in March and April.  But I care more about what he did at the NBA level and occasionally in some meaningful games than I do in summer league.

Lastly, I was very excited when Bassey checked in, as I didn?t even know he was on the roster, and he did not leave me disappointed.  I hope we bring him to camp and give him a real chance to earn a spot.

I believe he has a long history of knee injuries and a torn ACL a couple years go. I think the Spurs just wanted someone more reliable health wise. I think he is well worth a flyer and someone who can have a defensive impact in limited minutes. I like the move for depth if we can sign him.

Highlighted it for you. Never said he doesn?t have upside, just said he can?t shoot at this point.

Yes but you have been so focused on the negative in this thread and are raining on anyone's parade that's excited.  90% of the players coming out of college need to work on their shot.  This isn't some 23yr old jr/sr coming to the NBA.  He's 19.  The kid has a lot of skills that excite me.  Yes I want everyone to be a 40% shooter but if he can be a 36% shooter in the NBA which is average.  With the rest of his skills he will turn into a starter.  He can attack the rim, rebound, he's not a ball stopper.  He needs to work on his handles and shot to be come an above average nba starter.  We haven't drafted any of those in a long time since the team has had one of the best records for years.  I was happy to get a guy with his potential so late to actually be excited about.  That's what I'm focusing on versus how a 19yr old who only shot 1.7 3's per game this year.  The kid was glued to the bench because he was 18/19 this season.  That's microscopic data to digest.  When Jordan Walsh came to the NBA you could just tell by his form he was a bad shooter.  Hugo doesn't have bad form.  He doesn't have some kind of weird hitch.  He needs reps.  I'm hoping he progresses like Baylor did and by March we see flashes of what to expect in 2026-2027.  One of the things I hated about the C's this year is not having anyone crashing the boards to crashing the hoop as a lob threat outside of our bigs.  Hugo will generate 3-4 assists per game when he plays 20 minutes just on his cutting either getting a layout our creating some wide open space for a shooter like Sam.

So, who do we cut to give Bassey a roster spot?  Davison?

Of course, the team would probably have to cut two guys, since I assume we're only keeping 14.

Literally just said that Hugo plays hard and is young. So he has time on his side to figure out the shot. He is a project right now.

I think people need to temper their expectations is all. Like you just said, he was glued to the bench on his team overseas. So how are people expecting him to play in the NBA right away? That doesn?t make sense.

Also, I don?t think Walsh should be someone to compare Hugo to. Jordan wasn?t a first round pick or even an early second. Brad passed on guys like McNeeley, Fleming and Kalkbrenner to take Hugo. We shall see whether that was the right choice.

Bassey looked decent, he rebounded aggressively.  But he was just released from the Spurs and replaced by Luke and kelly Olynyk, what does that say?  Amari looked good, moved the ball and ran the floor well as predicted.  He looked like he was working hard to play the defense the Celtics wanted but he was thinking while doing this and trying to rebound.  This was his 1st game against at this level.  I am optimistic that Amari Williams will grow each game.  He runs very well, his comfort and  positioning need to grow.  I think it will.
