I'll take the $90 million, and can always demand a trade later.

This really isn't even a debate. This is a career first. Take the money, and figure out how to help the team be a winning team. Believe in your ability to change a culture, or at least be excited to show your skills so a winning team may want you.

In a pick up game, give me the championship contender, but if it means taking half the money, then it really isn't a debate to me. That extra money is generational wealth that can benefit my children's children's children's children.

I also think money talks.  If you are only 25, you need to get yours.  If the terrible team has some good young players and draft picks, maybe you go that route.  If not, you look at the solid team, and kind of work your way up that way.

I voted for the solid team assuming that the terrible team is just a bad franchise and had no potential to be anything better for the immediate future.

$75mil solid team.

I wouldn't be happy on a terrible team.

As a 25 year old with your 1st contract after the rookie deal, you should take the money every single time.
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

I?m with you. I mean what are we talking about the lifestyle isn?t going to change from 75 mil to 90 mil or whatever. You are still going to have an extremely healthy retirement. You only live once, give me the happiness and memories where I want to be. It?s not like we are talking about $75,000 or $90,000 where it can have real life impacts.

Edit I?m going with 60 mil. lol Love to stay in Boston and be around people I care about most, and of course playing for the C?s.

Its hard to say because Ive never seen that type of money but I?ve consistently been willing to pass up 10-20% pay hikes in my life to go to better situations.

So I think if the terrible team was a miserable organization, Id cough up the 5 mil a year to be somewhere I think Id be happier with the thought being Ill be happy for 3 years and probably end up making it back on my next contract.

That said I?m more looking at it as terrible environment vs solid environment rather than win loss records.

That said, passing up $15 million when there?s a real chance this is deal is going to finance the entire rest of my life would be tough. The organizational gap between terrible and solid would have to be really big.

If it?s *me* at 25 - I had no kids, and no interest in marriage at the time, so I think a major missing factor in the poll is location.  I would not choose Toronto or Milwaukee (examples) at that time as compared with some warmer cities with more *fun* available.  I get the sense that most 25 yo NBA players have children - and many are supporting the baby?s mother.  Maximizing money might be a higher priority in that case.

The other *me* vs the hypothetical player factor is that, to me at 25 I think I would have seen little difference between 75M and 90M.  Both would have seemed ridiculous.  So other factors would have more likely been considerations.

Also important to note, while 3 years isn't a long time a lot can happen in sports in 3 years.  I mean the Thunder's last 5 season win totals are 22, 24, 40, 57, 68.  So if you signed with them after the consecutive seasons of 22 and 24 wins, you'd have won a title on that 3 year contract.

So I again say, you should always take the money

This is the first thing I thought as well. If I?m 25 and loaded I want to be in Miami .  I hadn?t thought of demanding a trade. I feel like 40 million dollars is generational wealth . 40 million handled responsibly will hook up generations later. ( unless the aliens attack)
I think the question may not have been considering asking to be traded in the future but I could be wrong .
40 million , 90 million. It would be the same thing to me if I intended on keeping it. I just want enough to never have to worry and a little more. I don?t want more than 2 cars . I?m just not that fancy. I?d only want the extra 50 mil to give away personally .
No **** way an I donating it anywhere . I don?t trust any organization or charity . I?m giving it out personally .
