Derik Queen reminds me of Andray Blatche.

I am surprised to see defenders keep going for his pump fakes. He hardly ever shoots the jumper but pump fakes every time. He wants to drive. He doesn't want to shoot a jumper. Make him shoot the jumper.

He is a good driver when he gets the opportunity. Reminds of Blatche 4-6yrs into his career. Put on weight. Lost some of that early athleticism he had. Methodical type of player. Wasn't good at getting enough high percentage shots. Had to take more difficult contested shots because he struggled to get separation at times. Derik Queen lacks speed & athleticism. He doesn't look comfortable finishing against length. He uses his body well to carve out space around the basket.

If you are going to be a face up big man, playing in the mid post and as a driver, you would like to see a player have a quickness advantage. D Queen looks like a guy who strong defensive big men / quick bigs will be able to deny him those easy drives and force him into tough shots. Sorta like what Kenyon Martin did to Antoine Walker in the playoffs. Toine could beat up smaller defenders or out-quick bigger slower defenders. But a big with quickness and defensive chops? That type of defender could make Toine's life miserable.

Mareesse Speights was another guy that came to mind watching Derik Queen.

Yves Missi has looked the better prospect between the two of them. Legit athleticism. Better size. Better defense. Plays within his limitations.

-------------

Derik Queen plays a bit like a SF. A power three. A post up three. A low post / mid post physical SF. A bit of Melo to his game.

Looks more comfortable in the mid post and driving than he does in the low post.

How does Carter Bryant play only 19mpg for his college team? Average only 6ppg 4rpg?

How in the world were they keeping this guy off the floor. I cannot believe Arizona had 2 better forwards than this guy.
I didn't watch the game, so based on your praise I tried to find highlights. 0 for 7 is rough. I assume his handling/defense must have popped for your reaction to him.

Sarr is looking good. 12pts/7rebs/4blks on 5-11 shooting at the half. He has a ton of upside.

Edit* finished with 16pts, 12rebs, 8blks. He could be really good.

At some point you have to blame the performance on the court on the players on the court. Every loss is not the coach's fault and every win isn't because of the players.

Tre Johnson reminds me of Jamaal Crawford. He?s going to be an explosive scorer.

Rookie forward Noa Essengue's debut Friday wasn't just humbling, it was a disaster. The 18-year-old looked like a freshman playing with the varsity. He was pushed around like a baby giraffe, turned over like a French pastry - seven giveaways, to be exact - and became a passive bystander in the second half.

Essengue scored only five points and was a minus-32 in just less than 25 minutes against the Raptors. Even more alarming was afterward, when he admitted he was "surprised" by the physicality. He very well might have been, but it probably wasn't something he should have admitted.

From a Chicago Sun Times article on his SL debut. Ouch.
