Wow. Cant believe KP only had that much value. For being an expiring, I thought he?d bring back more.

We valued the cap relief over a real return, I guess.  I get it, I see the logic, but as a fan it doesn't feel good at all.

It definitely looks like this was an "other shoe" type deal in conjunction with the Holiday move, where we had committed to trading both, one for real value and one for cap room.  Team must have liked Simons better than any potential return they could have gotten for KP, so KP ended up being the dump.

Right now this sucks.  Brad can't be close to being done.  This roster is a play in team.  The issue is there isn't any big out there that is available that will make a difference.  This team is to small.

Agree, should got something better..really don?t want Luke back but have Al come but less money

I don't think they can afford to sign Kornet or Al at this point.

Expiring contracts don't have value just because they are expiring, they have value because you can save another team future money by taking on long term money. But in this case, the Celtics didn't want to do that, in fact they wanted to dump money THIS year, hence the low "value" return. The value the Celtcis got was money savings, rather than players or draft picks.

Can someone please explain why getting under the second apron is so important?
It seems they are still pretty much handcuffed and can't sign anyone that might help them.

They should be able to. They are about 4.5 million below the 2nd apron, butt I'd imagine it wouldn't be too hard to attach a second to niang's expiring 8.2 million and get up to about 13 million below which is probably enough to bring back one or both of Horford/Kornet.

Feel like it is way too early to decide whether to be happy or not. There are so many different directions the Celtics could go from here:

1. Continue to reduce salary and get under the first apron by trading guys like Hauser, Tillman, Pritchard, etc. Then try to build up around a Core 3 of Tatum/Brown/DWhite from there.

2. Accept that the championship window of years past is gone and move on from one of JB/DWhite.

3. Go into the season with a flawed roster, knowing they will trade players at the deadline depending on how the team performs and Tatum's recovery looks.

Simons
White
Brown
PP
Niang
Baylor
Walsh
First round pick tomorrow
Queta

That is your roster as of now. I am assuming Al, Kornet and Hauser are all going elsewhere.

Not sure that team makes the playoffs. It is obvious the Cs are going to have to draft a big tomorrow.

You omitted Hauser and Tillman, both signed for next season.

Getting under the apron prevents their draft pick in 2033 from being "frozen." It also prevents their 2032 draft pick from being relegated to the end of the first round. It gives them the ability to aggregate salary in a trade. It might give them some wiggle room to use a DPE from Tatum's injury if they get one.

Besides all that these moves save ownership 200+ million dollars in salary tax, so far.

Whetehr or not you think those things have a little, some or a lot of value depends on what else they do.

Right, but they still have to sign 2 1st rounders which will cost around $2.7M

Going to be really interesting to see what we do with JB and/or White now. If the offers are right (e.g. # 2, Castle, etc.), it may make the most sense to just trade everyone, tank next year while JT recovers, and get another high pick next year to put a young, talented cast around JT, who is young enough to do that.

But with our questionable big talent right now (and unclear path of improving that position), I?m not sure it makes sense to try and retool with the big 3 of JT, JB, and White.
Recovering Joe Skeptic, but inching towards a relapse.

I was wrong about the value of the Nets cap space, especially when the only other team with a large TE is involved with the trade. The Nets got the 22nd overall pick for taking 50m+ contract.

IN other news, what in the world are the Nets doing? There is absolutely no way that the Nets make 5 1st round selections this year, right? What are they doing?

Ugg, Niang was by far the least interesting player to come up in rumors. I hope we offload him too instead of Hauser. He is quickly falling off the cliff as an NBA player.

I hope we aren't done yet, but I also am not sure I want to see White, Pritchard, or Brown get traded now.

This trade signals to me they are tanking next year, which I think means they are trading Brown.
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip
