The Spurs find themselves in an interesting spot from a roster standpoint where almost anything is on the table (except trading Wemby, obviously). They are the team I?m most excited to see what they look like next year.
If Im SA?s front office im not looking to take any big swings and just looking to build out the roster around Wembanyama using my draft capital and cap space. Sounds like Giannis isnt available. Jaylen probably isnt available. And they should stay far away from KD in my opinion.
However, I think I would - and I havent seen anyone float this idea yet- trade De?Aron Fox. The Fox trade made sense at the time but that was before they knew they were getting Dylan Harper. I think it?s a bit redundant to have those two paired together in the backcourt. Also, I like Fox as a player, but not sure he has the type of game that is going to age that well as he heads into his thirties, relies mostly on speed.
It?s safe to say given recent rumors that Toronto wants to take a swing on an All-Star caliber player, and also need a point guard. So heres my fake trade:
TOR gets: De?Aron Fox
SAS get: Immanuel Quickley, Ochai Agbaji, 9th overall pick, future 1st rounder.
Then bolster the frontcourt by drafting Carter Bryant 9th and Thomas Sorber 14th.
PG: Dylan Harper , Immanuel Quickley
SG: Devin Vassell , Ochai Agbaji
SF: Stephon Castle , Keldon Johnson
PF: Jeremy Sochan , Harrison Barnes , Carter Bryant
C: Victor Wembanyama , Thomas Sorber
Beats giving up good young assets for 37 year old KD imo.
But its just an example of one of many routes they can take - what would you do?
Sidenote: I was listening to the Kevin O?Connor podcast and his guest floated the idea of them trying to get Derrick White back and I actually didnt hate the idea for them, but it would have to be a hell of a package.
