I've been going back and forth on Al.  I'm sure his family will play a big part in his decision.  They love Boston and you see how often Al's kid is at the games.  The environment is really set up to accommodate the families.  He's wont a chip and has nothing to prove.  He's made a ton of money as well.  If he signed back with the cs it would not shock me but if he left to go to a contender that wouldn't surprise me either.

On the other hand I think Kornet is gone.  Lack of centers available and hes made the minimum for so long.  He deserves to chase as much money as he can get to set up his family long term.

Deandre Ayton is getting bought out in Portland.

4 years ago he was the starting center for a Finals team and he's still only 26. The reason he's being bought out is because he seems to not give a darn about basketball so... obvious red flag.

Anyone have any interest in a reclamation project during this upcoming season where the team isn't really going to contend, anyway?

He doesn't compete.  No thanks.  He's a coaster.

Rumor is Brook Lopez is going to be the guy for the Lakers. Worth noting Ayton took a 10-million-dollar buyout, so that's probably what he's looking for which is more than the C's can offer.

I found this reporting telling:

Quote
How much the Lakers will be able to offer Ayton depends on what other moves they make at the start of free agency. If they were to re-sign Dorian Finney-Smith to a new deal, then they would only be able to offer the taxpayer mid-level exception of $5.7 million to Ayton.

If the Lakers were to let Finney-Smith walk then it would open up the full mid-level exception of just over $14 million to offer the center.

With reports indicating that Ayton gave back around $14 million in his buyout agreement, it's reasonable to think he will have full mid-level offers on the free agent market.

If LAL offer him $14M, then yeah, this does seem like a done deal.  But I think that would hard-cap them at the tax line.  You can't be a taxpayer and use the non-taxpayer exemption.

Spotrac has LAL at about $176M right now with only 11 players.  Shake Milton is non-guaranteed so his $3M could be cleared but then they only would have 10 players.  I don't think they can sign Ayton for $14M and stay under the tax line.

In any case, even if they offer him $5.7M, that probably still gets it done.

The Spurs signed Luke Kornet to a four-year, $41 million deal, per
@ShamsCharania
.

San Antonio blew the Celtics out of the water for what they could offer.

A big now paired alongside Victor Wembanyama in spurts.

Great for Luke, he deserved a nice contract, but bad for the Celtics.  Luke and Payton were my favorite players last season.

Man, good for Luke. I never expected him to get 10M per year. Well deserved. Thanks for the memories Luke!
