Today, both Marco Bellinelli and John Wall announced that they have retired from basketball.

Today, both Marco Bellinelli and John Wall announced that they have retired from basketball.

Hadn't heard Bellinelli's name in a while.  A long and solid career, both here and overseas.  Sounds like he went out a champ in Italy this past season.  Wall was awfully fun to watch before all of the injuries.  He gave the Celtics all they could handle that one 7 game series.

It always cracks me up when a player that hasn't played a meaningful minute of basketball in like 4 years announces he is now retiring.

It's kinda' like when an employee gets fired and says, "You aren't firing me. I quit."

There should be a different term than retiring for this. Retiring is something you do gracefully when there is still a small amount of interest in you as a player. It's a graceful exit.

What John Wall and others do is much less ... elegant.
