The thing I am least looking forward to next season is in part that the Lakers will be a contender - but even more than that I'm dreading the unrelenting attention the Lakers will get here.
I'm anticipating that there won't be a day that a Laker thread of some sort will be in the 'latest discussions' section, and any general NBA thread (like this one) will feature constant Lakers updates. Maybe I'll be wrong.
Reading about the Lakers - especially if it's news related to their high quality of play, or how they're coming together as a team, or how Luka is motivated and playing the best basketball of his career - will put a damper on my day. So - I'm expecting it, but really not looking forward to it.
I'm not really worried about the Lakers. I think they'll be the subject of drama all season.
Yeah and also, did LAL really improve much from the offseason? I'll give you Ayton and Smart but they also lost DFS, plus Lebron is a year older and if Ayton continues to coast like he did with Portland then their PF/C situation is still murky. The West is also very loaded. They'll for sure be a playoff team but I still think their ceiling is maybe a 4-5 seed, 2nd round exit. And yeah, there'll be drama involving Lebron in some way. Maybe even if Doncic starts off hot and the cameras go to him, Lebron won't like that lol
Is Smart going to play or is he going to be injured all year like he has been? Is pairing Luka and Ayton together a smart thing to do if both have have concerns about their commitment? What happens if Lebron, at age 41 in season 23, finally takes a big step back?
Maybe it'll all click for the Lakers and they'll be good but it's a lot of questions and a lot of ways things can go bad.
