I'd take him back here in a second on a vet minimum.  Cut Davison, dump Walsh.

dems is fighting words! I'd rather watch my kids throw a handful of quarters into the wishing well at the Mall. At least they'll get some of them in.

My kid has already thrown her wishing well coins in the hope of Marcus? return.  She is about a good a shot as Marcus, but maybe she got at least one in.

There is no clear role for M Smart here.

We have 3 guards in D White, A Simons and Pritchard. Very few minutes leftover behind them. Not enough for Smart. They would have to trade A Simons to clear enough playing time for Smart to have a significant role here.

I don?t think Smart is coming back. Moving him allowed the J?s to become leaders of the team. Also, he seems washed at this point.

The Jazz opening up a 26 million dollar TPE is certainly interesting. Thats not enough to take Simons outright, but it could very well serve as a final dumping ground for contracts the Celtics don't want in a Simons deal. There might even be a way to get Walker Kessler if the C's throw in a first.

As an example:

Bucks get Simons
Jazz get Kuzma, 2031 first round draft pick from Bucks, 2027 first round draft pick from Celtics.
Celtics get 22.5 million dollar TPE, completely out of tax, Walker Kessler

The Athletic story on Beal's potential buyout mentioned a CBA quirk affecting Suns ability to stretch the buyout.

Because of a quirk in the collective bargaining agreement, Beal, who has $110.8 million and two years remaining on his contract, must give back at least $13.8 million for the Suns to be allowed to stretch him. If he did, Phoenix would then have a dead cap hit of $19.4 million on its books in every season through 2029-30.

Anyone know what this is about?  I'm wondering why it doesn't apply to the Buck's buyout and stretch of Dame.

You aren?t allowed to have more than 15% of the cap in stretched contracts.  The Suns have already stretched contracts in the past that are still counting against the cap this year, so they had less available room to stretch than the Bucks.

Thanks.  I knew about the 15% limit.  I didn't know the Suns already had bought out and stretched other players still on their books.

Orlando Magic star Paolo Banchero agreed to a five-year, $239 million maximum rookie contract extension that could reach $287 million, Mike Miller of LIFT Sports Management told ESPN on Monday.

Miller said Banchero's new deal includes triggers to elevate the base salary to the supermax should the Magic franchise cornerstone make either All-NBA team, either All-Defensive team or earn MVP or Defensive Player of the Year honors next season.

Now Magic fans need to say their prayers that he doesn't qualify for the supermax.

The incentive should be the opposite. Fans should always see the benefit in their players growth and excellence.  To root for lower achievement is the unfortunate outcome of a bad agreement. Obviously, Magic fans will want him to be as great as he can be, but in today?s NBA that is a costly outcome.

Kyle Lowry and the Philadelphia 76ers have agreed to a one-year deal. Lowry will be in his 20th NBA season and his third with the Sixers.

Lowry averaged 3.9 points, 1.9 rebounds and 2.7 assists last season for the Sixers.

And they have the Quentin Grimes situation. If he returns to Philly, they will have a very talented backcourt. Their top 4 guards will among the best in the league. Their 3rd stringers (Lowry, E Gordon) also fantastic.

By making this trade, the Heat have limited themselves financially since they are now hard-capped at the first apron.

This means the Heat are unable to use their full MLE, thus making a path to Bradley Beal tough without trading other players. Miami is likely out on Beal.

Others: Q Post (big), G Santos (forward), Cam Spencer (guard).

That team would be so cool. I wonder if they would be better off with TJD as starter to get some more quickness, athleticism, hustle plays alongside those other older starters. Let Horford continue as a 6th man. They preferred Q Post to TJD late last season. I think they wanted a shooting big next to Draymond & Jimmy rather than a rim roller. I believe they were worried about offensive spacing. So it would probably with Horford as starter.

Podz and/or Kuminga will have to step up next season. GSW need a 3rd scorer behind Steph and Jimmy. Neither answered the bell last season. Whether they do or not will likely be the difference between GSW being a true contender or not.
