From ESPN article on Mike Brown's appoinment

Quote
New York's starting five of Jalen Brunson, Karl-Anthony Towns, Mikal Bridges, Josh Hart and OG Anunoby got outscored from Jan. 1 to the end of the regular season, then was outscored during the postseason.

Wow, that is incredible. How does a lineup that talented get outscored from Jan 01 til the end of the season?

Might be time to move Josh Hart back to the bench.

At some point you have to blame the performance on the court on the players on the court. Every loss is not the coach's fault and every win isn't because of the players.

It?s not just that Flagg represents an elite talent going West. He?s joining an unusually potent club at the top of the draft. With a record of 39-43, the Mavericks are the winningest team to select (and retain) their No. 1 overall pick since the 1982 Lakers. via Yahoo! Sports

I believe the Magic finished 41-41 in Shaq's first season but missed the playoffs and got the #1 pick. They used the pick on C Webber but traded him to GSW for Penny Hardaway and 3 firsts.

Ah, I missed "and retain" when I first read it.

Hoopshype's list of best remaining free agents

1 - Lillard
2 - Giddey (restricted FA)
3 - Kuminga (restricted FA)
4 - Malik Beasley

I don't think anyone will sign Beasley until that gambling case is resolved. Media reporting it as a bad one. Detroit already pulled their offer and went after Duncan Robinson instead.

5 - Cam Thomas (restricted FA)
6 - Quentin Grimes (restricted FA)

7 - Horford
8 - Westbrook
9 - CP3

10 - A Coffey
11 - Achiuwa
12 - C Boucher

I am surprised Denver haven't gone after Boucher. They have tried to trade for him multiple times. Gives them a backup PF who can shoot versus Zeke Nnaji who is a defensive PF who cannot shoot. Allow them to pick and choose depending on need.

13 - Gary Payton II
14 - M Brogdon

These two guys should be way higher on this list.

15 - Ben Simmons
16 - Cam Payne
17 - D Banton
18 - T Lyles
19 - Thomas Bryant
20 - Garrison Matthews

21 - Monte Morris
22 - Kyle Lowry
23 - T Horton Tucker
24 - Brandon Boston
25 - Javonte Green

26 - Delon Wright
27 - D Theis
28 - Lindy Waters III

I would love to have Lindy Waters III here. He is a solid backup SF. A great 3rd stringer. He would be fantastic insurance if we have to trade Sam Hauser. Or if we have to start Sam Hauser and then need a backup SF to replace Hauser's bench role.

Delon Wright would be an excellent 3rd string guard. A big defensive combo guard. A different sort of weapon than A Simons or P Pritchard.

Both guys would be phenomenal for Boston's bench.

29 - Markelle Fultz
30 - Alec Burks
31 - De'Anthony Melton

Linked to the Lakers. Good player when he is healthy but is rarely healthy.

32 - Mo Bagley
33 - Cam Reddish
34 - Bones Hyland
35 - Cory Joseph

A pair of good 3rd string PGs there.

36 - Seth Curry
37 - Isaiah Jackson (restricted)

I am surprised Isaiah Jackson isn't higher on the list. Pacers fans felt they were missing him in the postseason. Forced to play Thomas Bryant and Tony Bradley instead with neither being as good as Isaiah Jackson.

38 - DeAndre Jordan
39 - Markieff Morris

Neither is an NBA player anymore. Stop giving them work.

40-50 = C Koloko, J McLaughlin, Trevlin Queen, Mo Bamba, Josh Richardson, Landry Shamet, Micah Potter, Kessler Edwards, Taj Gibson, Bol Bol, Patty Mills

50-70 = Charles Bassey, Wendell Moore, Reggie Jackson, D Barlow, MarJon Beauchamp, Orlando Robinson, Jamal Cain, Alex Len, Caleb Houstan, J Robinson-Earl, Kai Jones, Christian Wood, Torrey Craig, Isaiah Thomas, Doug McDermott, Chris Duarte, James Wiseman, Johnny Davis, Jae Crowder. Okay, that is their top 70.

I wouldn't mind Christian Wood as an option at PF. Kai Jones showed promise late last season as a young athletic big. A good option as 3rd string center.

-------------------------

I would separate the restricted guys from the others - Josh Giddey, Quentin Grimes, Kuminga, Isaiah Jackson, Cam Thomas in that order.

My Top 10

1 - Horford
2 - Lillard
3 - G Payton II
4 - Brogdon
5 - Lindy Waters III
6 - Delon Wright
7 - Chris Paul
8 - C Boucher
9 - Kai Jones
10 - A Coffey

Yeah, Taj Gibson needs to retire. Crazy he is still in the league. Charlotte took him off the dumpster pile when they were short-handed for bigs last season. 40 years old now.

Cory Joseph (33yo) actually played a big role for Orlando last year. With Suggs going down, Joseph ended up playing rotation minutes and even started for Orlando in the playoffs. He is much the same player as he was. Offensively limited, defensively capable. Still a solid 3rd sring PG for someone.

The list of available centers after Horford is underwhelming. I?m sure Isiah Jackson will return to Indiana with their restricted rights. Speaking of Pacers centers or former ones for that matter I wonder if James Wiseman?s career is officially over after last year?s ACL injury. He actually played surprisingly decent last preseason. Maybe he could be a what the heck flyer minimum player and we can teach him to play a little defense.

Shams Charania: The Houston Rockets are trading Cam Whitmore to the Washington Wizards for two second-round picks, sources tell ESPN.

Seems cheap.  Since we have about 3000 of them, I would like to see Brad try to package some of our seconds.

Wish we could gotten him with all those seconds round picks, Washington got a steal
C/PF-Horford, Baynes, Noel, Theis, Morris,
SF/SG- Tatum, Brown, Hayward, Smart, Semi, Clark
PG- Irving, Rozier, Larkin

Cs probably didn?t want to pay him. $3.5M this year. Then a team option for $5.5M next before becoming a RFA.

Washington got a strange roster

Guards = CJ McCollum, M Smart, Bub Carrington

Wings & Forwards = B Coulibaly, Kyshawn George, Tre Johnson, Cam Whitmore, Julian Champagnie, Khris Middleton, Dillon Jones, Will Riley, Jalen McDaniels

Bigs = A Sarr, K Olynyk, Richaun Holmes

(1) Overloaded with wings / forwards. 9 of them. Almost all are forwards too. Tre Johnson is the only SG. All the rest are primarily SFs. 8 SFs + 1 SG. Why do you need 8 SFs!!

(2) No true PG. A scoring combo guard. A defensive combo guard. An up and comer combo guard. 3 combo guards.

(3) No true big man. A Sarr is still learning how to play center. Or forward. Frankly, he doesn't know how to play either one of them. Olynyk is a finesse big, a high post big. No real interior muscle between them. Interior D or rebounding. At least Olynyk brings reliable offense which is more than Alex Sarr does. R Holmes a 3rd string undersized garbage man center.

So, less than we're paying Minott + Davison

Maybe. He can score, but has a rep of tunnel vision and not much D. A microwave scorer has value though. He also had red flags with his past injury history. I am interested to see how he pans out.
